In addition to the Canary, Microsoft is also making the new Insider available in the Dev channel today and with ISO (once again). Today it is the Windows 11 23545.1000, more precisely the 10.0.23545.1000 ni_prerelease. The new version was compiled on September 8, 2023.
There is not much left to do in “ni_prerelease”, except of course corrections, especially in the file explorer. But Microsoft can still test a lot here before Windows 11 23H2 is launched.

- Search the taskbar Instead of opening the search box in the taskbar when you hover over the search box, let’s try different options if you click the search marker in the search box instead. In some cases, clicking on the light will take you to a Bing.com search tag page. When you hover over the search box, you will always see a search highlight gleam tooltip. As a reminder: We regularly try out different concepts and get feedback from insiders in the Dev Channel.
- Windows Share
- We’re starting to roll out the ability to quickly give your device a friendlier name to identify sharing to and from a nearby device in Settings > System > Nearby Sharing.
- We’re also introducing the ability to see Microsoft Teams contacts (work or school) and send files to them directly in the built-in Windows sharing window when signed in with an Entra ID (AAD) account.
- File Explorer
- Fixed an issue that could cause explorer.exe to crash when closing File Explorer.
- Fixed an issue where switching between dark and light modes (or a high-contrast theme) could cause File Explorer’s address bar, command bar, and context menu to get stuck in the wrong colors, making them difficult to see.
- Fixed an issue that caused a bright white flash to appear when launching File Explorer in the dark theme when loading content.
- Fixed an issue where quickly opening two File Explorer windows could cause explorer.exe to crash.
- A few more fixes have been made to improve File Explorer startup performance, including fixing a leak that was affecting performance over time.
- Fixed an issue that could cause explorer.exe to crash when navigating away from the home page.
- Fixed an issue where attempting to open the gallery after adding new images could result in a crash.
- Fixed an issue where the progress wheel would get stuck in the tab and show that File Explorer was loading a folder when it had actually already finished loading.
- Fixed an issue where File Explorer sorting changes in folders were not retained after navigating away and back.
- Fixed an issue that could cause icons in File Explorer tabs to be incorrect.
- Fixed an issue that caused icons on the desktop to become white, generic icons until the desktop was refreshed.
- Taskbar Fixed an explorer.exe crash in recent builds that affected taskbar reliability.
- Search the taskbar Fixed an issue that resulted in search sometimes not starting in recent builds of the development channel.

- We corrected the issue that caused the Unicode Emoji 15 support introduced in build 23475 and the updated color font format with COLRv1 support introduced in build 23506 to no longer appear. These experiences should work again with this build.
- Some work has been done to resolve an issue that could result in the Japanese and Chinese IME candidate windows not appearing due to a crash after using Connected Standby.
- Fixed a tabtip.exe crash that may have affected input in recent builds.
- Settings Fixed an issue that prevented Settings from booting into Safe Mode for some Insiders.
- Miscellaneous Fixed an issue where attempting to take screenshots in windowed mode resulted in some Insiders taking screenshots of the entire screen instead of the focused application.
