Will a Game of Thrones star become the new Lara Croft?

Amazon MGM Studios is currently working on a brand new live-action series based on the legendary “Tomb Raider” games. Now it seems as if a “Game of Thrones” star could become the new Lara Croft.

A few months ago, Amazon awarded MGM Studios one Tomb Raider Live Action-Series green light. Afterwards, production became quiet, but now it seems to be making progress again. From an exclusive report from the reliable industry magazine Deadline It appears that those responsible for the upcoming video game adaptation have now put together a list of ideal candidates for the part of Lara Croft.

At the top of this list should be two actresses: Sophie Turner, who is known to many film and series fans especially as Sansa Stark from “Game of Thrones” and as young Jean Gray from the last “X-Men” films is. Also Lucy Boyton, known from the biopic “Bohamian Rhapsody”, will be in the running for the role of the tough adventurer. According to Deadline, both are said to be willing to take part in tests for the lead role.

Amazon promises an epic Tomb Raider series

Based on the report, it seems unclear which Hollywood actresses might still take part in the tests. Amazon MGM Studios' wish list for the “Tomb Raider” series should also include Emma Corrin (“Deadpool & Wolverine”, “The Crown”) and Mackenzie Davis (“Speak No Evil”, “Terminator: Dark Fate”) . A spokesperson for the film studio declined to comment on the reports to Deadline.

It promises to be exciting to see which actress will ultimately follow in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. According to a statement from Amazon MGM Studios CEO Jennifer Salke, “Tomb Raider” fans can definitely look forward to an “epic” and “world-spanning” journey that Lara Croft will experience in it. Executive producer Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”) in particular is enthusiastic about the project.



“Lara Croft means a lot to me, as it does to many others, and I can't wait to experience this adventure. With bats and everything,” said Waller-Bridge in May 2024. The actress, known from “Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Destiny,” among others, will not only accompany the video game adaptation as a producer, but also the scripts for the film adaptation of the iconic action -Contribute adventure series.

In addition to Waller-Bridge, Jenny Robins for Wells Street Productions, Dmitri M. Johnson for dj2 Entertainment and Michael Scheel are also involved as executive producers. Legendary Television is also involved in the series as rights holder and the “Tomb Raider” development studio Crystal Dynamics as executive producers. Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics will also produce the series.

The upcoming “Tomb Raider” series currently does not have a launch date.
