Why people don't like JRPGs

What exactly is a JRPG? In the PC Games Podcast episode Numero 80, we explain why the time-honored name is often used incorrectly in the games sector, what effects this has on the label and why it can often get in the way of gaming. Of course, our podcast host Maci Naeem Cheema grabbed co-host Michael Grünwald for this, because he's not a fan of JRPGs at all – too bright, too naked, too wild and just way too over the top. This is rounded off by our editor and Host of the Nintendo Podcast, Annika Menzelthe recently wrote a major special on the topic and – important to mention here – is a huge fan of JRPGs.

We discuss the label and the curse of JRPGs extensively and of course also bring a number of more recent games into the topic. Among other things, it's also about Scarlet Nexus, the many games from From Software, the currently popular RPG Dragon's Dogma 2, The Witcher 3 and much more. Finally, the often extremely unnecessary level of over-sexualization is also criticized. We hope you enjoy the podcast and feel free to write us in the comments what you think about the complex topic and which JRPG you last played.
