Why Nintendo doesn't get involved in crossovers

The colorful battle royale shooter is a crossover hub. But why aren't there any Nintendo characters in the game?

Numerous well-known video game heroes and villains are represented in “Fortnite”. Epic Games regularly initiates new collaborations to bring iconic characters into the shop and earn a lot of money with them.

Also PlayStation characters like Kratos and Nathan Drake have long been seen in the battle royale hit. Xbox also got involved in crossovers, which is why Master Chief is included in the game.

Epic Games wanted Samus

The situation is different for Nintendo, with whom Epic Games has not yet been able to come to an agreement. The software company was once interested in introducing the main character of the “Metroid” series: Samus Aran. Nothing came of it.

What is the reason for this? The Japanese video game company simply doesn't want to see its heroes on other platforms.

They were really bothered by their characters appearing on platforms that weren't theirs.

They would be thrilled to have Nintendo characters in Fortnite, but only if it's on their platform.

Mustard continues on Nintendo's stance

In theory, it would be possible to make a character platform exclusive. However, Epic Games has no interest in limiting specific skins to one platform. Because according to Donald Mustard, “Fortnite” should offer the same gaming experience on every platform.

As early as December 2023, former Nintendo worker Kit Ellis spoke about the lack of cooperation with Epic Games. He said this didn't make sense for several reasons. Nintendo spent decades building up intellectual property. In addition, people are shot at in “Fortnite,” which doesn’t fit with Nintendo’s values.
