Ncuti Gatwa officially plays the 15th Doctor. His first adventures, since the Christmas Special, soon begin alongside Millie Gibson.
The three anniversary episodes, for the 60th anniversary of the series, led to this new season 1. It is now official: Doctor Who restarts in season 1. After the Christmas Special broadcast on December 25, 2024 (The Church on Ruby Road), the rest is coming in a few days.

In the casting of this new version of Doctor Who, Ncuti Gatwa in the role of the 15th Doctor, and Millie Gibson to accompany him in Ruby Sunday. The two characters were treated to their first full episode during the Christmas Special, but the serious things begin this year, in 2024.

It’s a “soft reboot” of Doctor Who
As in 2005, it is a soft reboot. The Doctor's chronology is not altered: it is indeed the 15th Doctor and the entire history of the series continues. Moreover, in the Christmas Special, this referred to events learned during season 13 (the fact that he was adopted). Above all, it is the episode count which restarts from zero – the BBC seeking to breathe new life into its series, by offering new audiences easier entry.
The trailer confirms the return of Yasmin Finney as Rose Noble. Also in the cast, Jinkx Monsoon, Indira Varma, Jonathan Groff.
We do not yet know which iconic enemies will be back, the trailer not showing the Master (although saved by a mysterious hand in the episode The Giggle), nor the Weeping Angels, nor the Cybermen. The showrunner also wants to take “a break” from the Daleks.

However, we know that a very powerful new threat is looming: The One Who Waits. Even the Toymaker could not overcome this still unknown protagonist. As Jinkx Monsoon's character is described as the most powerful ever faced, it could very well be her at the center of this arc. But we don't know more at the moment. Note that the trailer shows us that this season will also lead us to meet… the Beatles.
The origins of the new traveling companion, Ruby Sunday, also remain very unclear and will be at the heart of this season 1. In The Church on Ruby Road, we learn that she is an orphan, mysteriously left at the foot of a church then adopted. The person who drops it off is masked by a cape. Some theories suppose that it was Ruby who dropped herself at the foot of the church – thus, her parents and her origin would be even more distant and mysterious, perhaps not earthly.
All this will begin to become clearer from May 11, 2024, with the series entering its 61st year of existence.
