In an interview, game director Corrine Busche chatted about BioWare's plans for the upcoming role-playing game “Dragon Age: The Veilguard”. Among the topics Busche addressed was possible DLC support after the launch.
In recent months, the developers at BioWare have promised several times that the studio will focus on working on “Dragon Age: The Veilguard” took the criticism of the past to heart.
Based on community feedback, BioWare decided against an online requirement and completely dispenses with microtransactionsBut what about support with DLC or additional content that will be released after the launch of “Dragon Age: The Veilguard”?
A question that game director Corrine Busch asked in an interview with YouTuber MrMattyPlays. As Busche confirmed, BioWare currently has no plans regarding possible downloadable content.
The team's focus is on a complete story
According to Busche, this is because BioWare is trying to deliver a complete story with “Dragon Age: The Veilguard” that, unlike its predecessor, “doesn’t cry out for a sequel.” At the same time, Busche explained that she is a big fan of the “Invader” DLC from “Dragon Age: Inquisition” (2014) was.
“Trespasser” concluded the story of “Inquisition” and at the same time built a bridge to the events of possible successors.
However, Busche admitted that “the DLC was so essential to the story of Dragon Age: Inquisition that one could argue that it should have been a part of the main game.”
A scenario that the developers of “Dragon Age: The Veilguard” want to avoid. “We really wanted to offer the most complete package that we could from a player perspective, narratively and in every other respect,” added Busche. “That is our only focus at the moment.”
Developers do not rule out post-launch DLC
Even though BioWare has no plans for post-launch content at the moment, Busche says you should never say never. “It's hard to say what the future holds,” says Busche. “But I can say that we have discussed whether the game should end after the first act.
“And the answer was a resounding no. We had to tell the whole story of The Veilguard.”
If BioWare decides to go with DLC or an expansion, contrary to current plans, we should not expect the additional content to continue the story of “Dragon Age: The Veilguard” or serve as an epilogue.
Instead, the team would like to use lore, characters or locations from the series' rich canon. However, nothing has been announced yet.
“Dragon Age: The Veilguard” will be released on October 31, 2024 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. In addition to the standard version, EA and BioWare are offering the role-playing game in a digital Deluxe Edition or one physical Deluxe Edition to.
