“We took a big gamble for this”: PietSmiet, YouTube sensation, unveils the next steps

The PietSmiet team doesn't just do gaming. The YouTube stars now put the controller aside again and grab the wooden spoon. In this interview, Peter Smits talks about the troupe's new cookbook and the future of the channel.

PietSmiet presents a new cookbook: this time with a star chef

PietSmiet's YouTube channel currently has almost 2.5 million subscribers. This includes Peter Smits, Dennis Brammen, Jonathan Apelt, Sebastian Lenßen and Christian Schwanzhaus biggest gaming stars of the German internet. Together, the well-rehearsed team even published their own cookbook in 2021 – and now the successor is coming.

For this purpose, PietSmiet has teamed up with star chef Dominik Käppeler. In an interview with Watson, Smits now talks about how second cookbook started:

We all evolved and I became interested in fine dining, became friends with chefs, started a food and drink podcast. At some point I met the chef Dominik Käppeler, we shot something and wanted to do something else together. So we made the book together.

PietSmiet's culinary adventures have now reached a new high point. Smits says that cooking used to be one Punishment for the loser in gaming was. Despite mediocre skills, viewers enjoyed watching more than 100 episodes of “PietSmiet cooks”.

More than just YouTube? This is how things continue with PietSmiet

In the Watson interview, Smits also talks about the future of PietSmiet. The YouTube star doesn't see the end here. He could even easily imagine to continue creating entertainment media until retirement – as long as he still feels like it. The only thing that remains unclear is whether this will take place on YouTube, Twitch, TikTok or something completely new.

Right now he can't imagine what his life would be like without the PietSmiet channel. He is simply happy – but doesn't take success for granted:

We also risked a lot for this. I took a break from my studies and eventually finished it without graduating. Today I know: We will always have and do PietSmiet. I don't know exactly what it will look like in 20 years.

With the Birth of his first child A big change is coming for Smits privately. However, he doesn't think this will change the channel's content much. For the rest of the year, the plan is to continue uploading three videos to YouTube every day and to also hold some larger events.
