Was the series buried by Ubisoft?

Will we see a new Watch Dogs sooner or later? Rumor has it that the series is “dead and buried.”

Ten years ago, Ubisoft released the first part of the “Watch Dogs” series. A sequel followed in 2016 with “Watch Dogs 2” before the franchise came to a temporary conclusion with “Watch Dogs Legion” and the expansion “Bloodline”.

Ubisoft has not yet announced the development of a new game. And if current rumors prove true, the French publisher could have said goodbye to the series entirely.

Usually dead and buried

A supposed insider who, according to… PSU who had previously correctly chatted about Ubisoft games, wants to know that the “Watch Dogs” series will no longer be continued, including the next planned game in this universe.

It is also interesting that the leaker mentions a battle royale title that is said to have been quite “original”.

“Watch Dogs is usually dead and buried. “Legion’s flop destroyed plans for the license (including a pretty original battle royale),” said @xj0nathan on Twitter/X.

After the launch of “Legion”, Ubisoft announced that in the future they would concentrate exclusively on the most important brands, which above all means plenty of “Assassin's Creed”.

Legion received little support from players

“Watch Dogs Legion” was released in October 2020 with a Metascore of 76. With a user score of 6.2, players were less satisfied. Current sales figures are not available. However, around two million digital sales are said to have occurred in the first week alone.

There was already turbulence with the first “Watch Dogs”. After the game debuted at E3 2012 with a outstanding gameplay demonstration was introduced, things didn't look nearly as good when it was launched in 2014. Overall, the title was largely convincing.

If you would like to get an impression of it: The “Watch Dogs Complete Edition” is currently available with a 80 percent discount in the PlayStation Store available. The amount to be paid fell to 5.99 euros. The price was last reached in September of last year.

Irritations surrounding Far Cry 7

While the alleged complete discontinuation of the “Watch Dogs” series is something that has not been confirmed by Ubisoft, it is worth taking a look at the other rumors from @xj0nathan. A few days ago he circulated a supposed reference to the fact that Cillian Murphy “Far Cry 7” could be involved.

He later denied this assumption. “Please note: I NEVER said Cillian Murphy would be in the game. The picture means something different.”

Referring to the press, he later stated: “Puppets. But at least everyone sees how pathetic the media has become by extrapolating the smallest crumb.” Therefore, we can only hope that the statements about “Watch Dogs” have more substance.
