Warner Bros. doesn't see the future in the single player area

Warner Bros Games has had a turbulent 14 months: After Hogwarts Legacy As expected, it hit like a bomb and exploded Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League itself in the air with its recent release.

One of the biggest reasons for this discrepancy is not that everyone loves Harry Potter and no one likes the anti-hero squad, but rather the different game concepts: classic single player vs. Focus on live service. However, Warner Bros. seems to assess the sales figures very differently, because in the future they want to invest much more heavily in the second category Neglect single player titles.

Suicide Squad instead of Hogwarts Legacy: The future model from Warner Bros.

The news comes fresh from the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media, and Telecom conference, where Warner Bros Discovery Executive JB Perette spoke about the future of the company. Accordingly, they want to get out of the economic fluctuationswhich shook up Warner Bros.'s games division after the success of Hogwarts Legacy and the failure of Suicide Squad, now draw conclusions – albeit different than expected.

“Our business has historically been very AAA console-based. That's a great business model, if you have a hit like Harry Potter then the year looks great. But when you don't have a release like that, or unfortunately we have disappointments – we released Suicide Squad this quarter, which wasn't that strong – then it makes it very volatile,” said Perette.

For this reason, they want to continue to focus on the four main franchises – Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter and DC – not as single-player experiences like Hogwarts Legacy, but by “expanding into the mobile and multi-platform free-to-play space, which could give us a better and more consistent flow of revenue.”
