According to Microsoft, the issue is related to update KB5036893, released on April 9, 2024. The update brings “various security improvements to the internal functionality of the OS” and also contains a few other minor changes.

The company did not provide any details about what exactly happened, only noting that users “may experience VPN connection failures” after installing the updates.

As a workaround for the issue at Microsoft offer Remove installed security updates for now. However, it is important to remember that the company includes all security patches in one update. Therefore, uninstalling cumulative updates removes all vulnerability fixes, although it may resolve VPN issues.
