Upcoming Project from Remedy (Max Payne, Alan Wake, Control) Gets Canceled

First known for Max Payne, Remedy Entertainment continued with the Alan Wake Then Controlthe Finnish studio has a bunch of projects in the pipeline, including the project Vanguardwhich was to be a cooperative shooter in PvE And free-to-play. At the end of last year, Remedy announced big changes, Vanguard became Kestrel and would be a game premiumtherefore paying, but still multiplayer.

THE Project Kestrel had returned to the design phase, but now the Finnish studio announces some very bad news. As he explains in A press release published on its official website, Remedy and the editor Tencent took the decision to cancel the Project Kestrelto focus on already existing franchises. The Chinese giant was to co-finance and co-publish the game with Remedyit's hard not to imagine that the decision comes mainly from Tencent, which also owns 15% of the studio's shares. Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedycomments:

The project codenamed Kestrel showed great promise, but it was still in its early stages. Our other projects have progressed well and are moving into the next stages of development, and the increased attention to them is providing us with benefits. We can reassign talented Kestrel developers to these other game projects, and many of our support functions focus more on their operations. This is yet another way to ensure that our game projects continue to move forward. I would like to thank our Kestrel development team. Although we decided to pause the project to take advantage of broader benefits from Remedy, our team did a good job and provided us with valuable learnings. I would also like to thank Tencent for their partnership thus far. They were very professional and supportive.

Remedy as a reminder, is developing remakes of the first two Max Payne, Control 2 and one spin off cooperative multiplayer PvE Project Condor (which could be called FBC: Break), suffice to say that the Scandinavian studio is very busy, the developers who were assigned to Kestrel have plenty to do. Unfortunately, Remedy didn't brag about salesAlan Wake 2its latest game only sold 1.3 million copies…

You can find Control: Ultimate Edition from €8.83 on Amazon, Cdiscount, Fnac, GOG.com And Gamesplanet.
