Upcoming Changes to Nintendo Switch’s Social Media Integration

In 2022, Nintendo has cut the bridges between social networks (Facebook And Twitter) and its old consoles (3DS and Wii U), by removing the possibility of sharing our screenshots and connecting to an account via these platforms. The Switch was then not affected. While we are now waiting to discover her future replacement, the ax now falls on this sharing functionality, at least on X. In addition to an announcement on the site of Nintendothe gaming account of the platform bought by Elon Musk was also there his comment to clarify that relations between the two companies remain strong. Behind these empty words since there is no particular partnership between the two, the community was quick to add a note to clarify that X charges over $40,000 per month for this type of integration at minimum and that's why Xbox And PlayStation at the end of last year have already stopped the costs.

It is therefore at the beginning of next month that it will no longer be possible to directly share our visuals from the Switch on Twitter / X. Nintendo also reserves the right to do the same with Facebook. Friend requests will also be impacted and on both platformsbut it's not like the system is useful anyway, especially since you just have to indicate the code in a message if necessary.

On June 10, 2024, we will discontinue the integration for X (formerly Twitter) as well as the ability to send friend requests to friends on social networks (social media integration) from the Nintendo Switch friend suggestions feature.

This impacts the following services:

  • The functionality to post screenshots and videos to X (formerly Twitter) from the album in the HOME menu on Nintendo Switch will no longer be available.
    • Although posting screenshots and videos to Facebook will remain available, this service may also be discontinued in the future.
    • The ability to post Super Smash Bros. screenshots. Ultimate from the album in the Nintendo Switch HOME menu to Smash World in the Nintendo Switch Online smart device app will also become unavailable.
  • Publishing features in the Nintendo Switch title Splatoon 3 will be adjusted.
    • When you post from the Cité-Clabousse, Place Chromapolis or Carré Chromapolis mailbox, you will no longer be able to post on X (formerly Twitter) or Facebook. The data will be sent directly to Nintendo servers. This change will allow users to post content without one of these social media accounts, but images posted by players under 13 will not be visible to other players.
    • The image created for publishing will be copied to the album in the HOME menu of the Nintendo Switch. Album images can be transferred wirelessly to a smart device or PC via USB cable.
  • Publishing features in the Nintendo Switch title Splatoon 2 will be adjusted.
    • You will no longer be able to post to X (formerly Twitter) from the Chromapolis Square mailbox.
    • The characters that appear and the messages displayed on the Square will be replaced by data already prepared in the game software.
  • The functionality to send friend requests to friends on social media via the Friend Suggestions menu on My Page in the HOME menu on Nintendo Switch will no longer be available.
    • You can continue to use the friend suggestions feature on smart devices, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.

We sincerely thank players for using these features over the years.

In the end, nothing too bad, because if you want to share with the community on the Web, you just need to connect your Switch to a PC via USB to transfer the visuals. It will just be a little longer.

The OLED model Switch can be purchased on Amazon at the price of €310.95.
