Unveiling the First Look of a Cult Character in the New Film

While Silent Hill 2 Remake is due to announce its release date in the coming weeks, the new film is at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. The opportunity to have an exclusive image.

Yes, we've been hearing this for weeks, but Silent Hill 2 Remake has every chance of returning during an event to reveal what everyone is waiting for: the official release date on PS5 and PC. But according to Bloober Team (Layers of Fear, Observer, The Medium), this long wait and this lack of communication will quickly be forgotten. “We are not only excited, but we are also very confident about the end result” said CEO Piotr Babieno. This PS5 remake will revisit the second episode of the license, like the future feature film by Christophe Gans.

An evil image for the film Return to Silent Hill

Return to Silent Hill is currently on the Croisette where it visibly rubs shoulders with Mad Max Furiosa and Metropolis, but is more discreet than the two aforementioned films. But thanks to Variety, one of the leading American sites for cinema and television, we have a very concrete first image of this new film. And it's even more than just a cliché since it confirms that Pyramid Head will be back. Excellent news… but not a surprise. Indeed, this feature film, still directed by French filmmaker Christophe Gans, is largely based on the PS2 game Silent Hill 2. It was therefore impossible to ignore one of the mythical monsters of the horror license .

A worthy result? Worth seeing because the image seems to lack consistency and looks very digital in this first image, despite the use of practical effects for this legendary character. Some Internet users are also doubtful at the moment. In comments on ResetERA, a user has the feeling of looking at a photo for a Figma figurine. And it's not the only one. Others are hoping for a dirtier rendering and want to wait to see the final version to really judge Pyramid Head's appearance.

A familiar and different story at the same time

For casting, Gans hired Jeremy Irvine (Mamma Mia 2, War Horse) to play James Sunderland, and Hannah Emily Anderson (X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Jigsaw…) as Mary Crane. “Driven by the shadows of his past, James Sunderland returns to Silent Hill to find his lost love, Mary Crane. But the small, dark and oppressive town is no longer the place of his memories. There he meets characters who seem too familiar to him and who try to distract him from his quest for Mary. The more he searches for Mary, the more he begins to wonder if this is still reality – or if he has fallen into the dark underworld of Jacob Crane.” official synopsis of Return to Silent Hill.

The story of this new Silent Hill film suggests that Christophe Gans could be taking liberties. We are talking here about lost love while Mary is the wife of James Sunderland. And as luck would have it, the PS5 remake will also touch up story elements. Will the two stories be similar in the end? We will have an answer in 2024 since both the game and the feature film are arriving this year.
