UGREEN RobotGaN 65W charger – A useful little robot – TEST

Recently, we had the opportunity to offer you a competition to try to win three chargers RobotGaN 65W from home UGREEN. But since we are above all a news and testing site, we asked the brand to send us a model of the charger, to try it and give you our opinion. This little “robot charger” sold as a cute and useful accessory, does it live up to its promises? We will see that immediately.

Foreword : It should be noted that we are not electronics professionals. Our product test will not go much further than an opinion from a consumer who purchased the charger in store.

Very cute, but is it really practical?

When I saw the charger RobotGaN of UGREEN for the first time, I think I had the same reaction as many people: how cute is he. All you have to do is humanize any object a little, make it smile and we'll be fooled. It must be said, the charger is really cute, it's not a joke. When not in use, its screen is off but the charger rests on two small shoes, which make it stand up like a little character straight out of a video game. In short, it can serve as decoration on a desk, even if the decoration is rather expensive. But it is obviously his performances that will interest us.

The first thing that bothered me a little is that the charger must be plugged into a mains socket via its stems which can be found when removing the little shoes. What could be more logical, you might ask? The problem is that unless you put a power strip back on the TV stand or desk, you can no longer see the charger. It is blocked, alone, against the wall or behind a piece of furniture. It would have been particularly nice if we could connect an extension cord to the back of the charger, so you could keep it upright on the desk to watch it smile while it's in operation. Because yes, the small screen has its interest.

A useful screen (really)

One might believe that the small screen where the RobotGaN fact sports a minimalist face is only there to look good. If he obviously participates in the aspect “cute” of the charger, it still has an interest, honestly quite practical. The robot can display three different faces: one that looks a little jaded, another happy without a mouth and one happy with a mouth. Each of the three modes gives us information:

  • The first means nothing is connected to the charger;
  • The second that the charge is complete or that the device is in “charge maintenance(like a 100% smartphone for example) ;
  • The last that fast charging is in progress.

Each of these three modes therefore provides information, which can be seen from afar without needing to check the device being charged. For example, if you are used to charging your Nintendo Switch via USB without using the dock, you will know from afar when it is fully charged. Be careful however, the last percentages are considered as a “charge maintenance” by the charger, so the face may change about 95% and not 100%. But here again, you have to place the charger on a power strip, itself placed on a piece of furniture. Damage !

Up to 65W of power

The technical promise of RobotGaN of UGREEN, is to load up to 65W And up to three devices at the same time. First of all, it is important to point out that each of the three ports will not send 65W of charging power. First of all, here is a quick summary of the ports present:

  • The first, in USB-Ccan alone send 65W and is therefore useful for charging a smartphone Android compatible, a Nintendo Switch or even a laptop like a Macbook Po/Air M1/M2/M3 (be careful, charging will often be slower than the official computer charger). It can also be used to power the dock of the Nintendo Switch, since it offers a power of 15V / 3A like the official charger. Be careful though, we always recommend using the charger supplied with the console;
  • The second port, also USB-C, rises to 30W; for a iPhonea Nintendo Switch or any other device that is a bit greedy;
  • The last port, USB-A (the classic USB port on a computer, rectangular and wider than Type-C) can go up to 22.5W. It allows you to load anything and everything, but at a fairly low speed.
  • If you use the two USB-C ports together, the first will go from 65 to 45W and the second from 30 to 20W maximum;
  • If you use the first USB-C port and the USB-A port together, the first will go from 65 to 45W and the second from 22.5 to 18W maximum;
  • If you use the second USB-C port and the USB-A port together, everything will deliver a maximum power of 15W at 5V/3A;
  • Finally, if you use the three ports at the same time, you will go to 45W on the first and 7.5W on the other two.

Clearly, the charger is fully capable of replacing any other when you travel, for example. You can bring with you a Macbook Pro, a Nintendo Switch and a smartphone to charge everything via a single charging pad. You obviously just need to get three cables, including two USB-C and one USB-A, to take full advantage of it. But the compact and powerful side of the charger is a real asset.

Cute, powerful and useful, but with a small downside

There isn't much to say about the performance of the RobotGaN 65W from home UGREEN. We used it to load a Nintendo Switch, external batteries and an iPhone, without ever encountering the slightest problem. Such a charger will suit almost everyone; When traveling, there is no need to bring several chargers, this one will do the trick for a computer, a phone, headphones, a console, in short almost everything. If you're not in a hurry, you can even charge three devices at the same time. Its cute side obviously adds something, especially since it can be placed on a desk and its magnetic feet allow it to hold in place on the back of a computer for example.

But it is rather its practicality that a problem arises: if you do not install a power strip on your desk or TV cabinet, you will never be able to take advantage of the functionalities of the charger screen, since it will be connected to even the wall or behind a piece of furniture. Finally, spending €50 on a charger is not always possible for everyone, no matter how cute it is.

The +

  • Performance is present, especially on the 65W port used alone
  • The design obviously has its effect
  • The robot faces have an interest besides being cute
  • The finish is generally very good.

THE –

  • No extension cord, so difficult to place a power strip on a desk to keep it in sight
  • 50€, you still have to take them out
