Ubisoft rejects speculation about the end of the shooter

According to Ubisoft, the free-to-play shooter “XDefiant” is not about to end. Instead, new seasonal content will follow soon. It can be seen in a trailer.

After “Concord” taken off the market just two weeks after launch and other live service games – as long as they are not called “Fortnite”, “Call of Duty” and the like – are also struggling with difficulties, Ubisoft San Francisco assures that “XDefiant” is by no means on the verge of extinction.

The developer gave an update on the current status of the shooter in a blog post and emphasized that it is not doomed. Instead, the team admitted that improvements need to be made in some areas. In particular, topics such as the netcode and the addition of new content are on the agenda.

No, the game is definitely not dying

The declaration also included a Roadmap for the first year publishedwhich shows what new content and features the developers are planning for “XDefiant” in the long term. The studio remains optimistic and emphasizes that the shooter is “running well” and will continue to be supported.

The statement is not a coincidence. Just over two weeks ago, speculation arose about an impending end of “XDefiant” and layoffs in the studio responsible. The shooter is now said to have fewer than 20,000 simultaneously active players on all platforms:

“No, the game is definitely not dying,” the blog update says. “We just want to make it better. And we'll do that by addressing the concerns of our community.” The publisher has provided the team with additional resources to achieve these goals.

Improvements and new content planned

The first season of the shooter started in July and brought three new maps and the “Capture the Flag” mode to the game, among other things. The team is now planning to release Season 2 of “XDefiant” and points out that further updates and patches will follow to improve the gaming experience.

“We are working to increase the number of proactive packet re-sends to minimize packet loss issues,” the netcode says. Other gameplay systems will also be reworked to improve the game's responsiveness. However, it is difficult to predict when these improvements will be fully completed.

With the new season, players can look forward to new maps, modes and other content. They are presented in the following trailer:
