Trinity R14.1.2 Desktop Environment Released, Offering Continued Development of KDE 3.5

Published desktop environment release Trinity R14.1.2which continues the development of the KDE 3.5.x and Qt 3 code base. Binary packages will soon be prepared for Ubuntu, Debian, RHEL/CentOS, Fedora, openSUSE And other distributions.

Trinity's features include its own tools for managing screen parameters, a udev-based layer for working with equipment, a new interface for configuring equipment, a transition to the Compton-TDE composite manager (a Compton fork with TDE extensions), an improved network configurator and user authentication mechanisms. The Trinity environment can be installed and used simultaneously with more current releases of KDE, including the ability to use KDE applications already installed on the system in Trinity. There are also tools for correctly displaying the interface of GTK programs without violating the uniform design style.

Among changes:

  • Added a new style for widgets and window decorations, tde-style-polyester, balancing between visual appeal and simplicity.
  • A new window decoration style, twin-style-fahrenheit, has been added, offering a design reminiscent of KDE 3.2.

  • Six new color schemes are offered.

  • Added five new styles for applications using GTK.


  • Added a setting that allows you to select the shutdown dialog style (standard or Ubuntu-like).

  • In ksnapshot, in the mode of creating a screenshot of a screen area, it is now possible to determine the delay. A call to setPixmap has been added to the DCOP (Desktop Communication Protocol) control protocol for remote configuration of the pixel map.

  • The twin window manager provides support for managing window tiling using the DCOP protocol.

  • Added support for resetting the tab color to the default in the konsole terminal emulator.

  • The kmix sound mixer offers new icons for the system tray that reflect the set volume level.

  • The graphical interface and operating logic of the kstreamripper streaming recording program have been improved.

  • kxkb implements keyboard layout change notification and uses available translations provided via xkeyboard-config.

  • Support for opening the body of an email in HTML format in an external browser has been added to the kmail email client.

  • Authentication methods have been redesigned in the sftp handler. Added support for SFTP servers to zeroconf ioslave.
  • In the framework TQt3 added support for buttons for moving through history (HistoryBack and HistoryForward). Memory leaks fixed.
  • Added an option to the gwenview image viewer to not load metadata.
  • Added support for Python 3.12, libpoppler 24.02, taglib 2 and libxml2 2.12.0.
  • Problems with resizing windows of applications that use a virtual terminal, such as terminal emulators from xfce and mate, as well as the gvim text editor, have been resolved.
