Many of you are currently using the digital version of the PS5 and downloading titles directly. Like Sony himself reported in his own blog Physical production of games for PlayStation will end in January 2028. You will then only receive newer titles as downloads, but this is already the case for some games.

In our photo series we show you which Playstation titles only exist because they are available on disc.

#1 Drive Club

The racing game Driveclub was removed from the store by Sony in 2019, at the same time the associated content and later the online functions were switched off. While the title is still available on physical media, it is no longer available digitally. The end of disc production would mean the end of games like this. Remaining stocks on the used market are then your only chance to start with Driveclub.

#2 Godzilla

The licensed game “Godzilla” has also disappeared in Europe and North America since 2017 and is no longer available via the online store. If you want to play it legally today, you’ll need a physical copy. However, you can continue to use your digital account. The risk is particularly high with licensed games that at some point they will only exist as discs and without discs the title will disappear.

#3 LittleBigPlanet Karting

LittleBigPlanet Karting was a popular offshoot and yet has completely disappeared from everyday digital life. The removal from sale and the shutdown of the multiplayer servers make the title practically unplayable. If you still want to access it at all, you’ll need a disc, because buying it digitally has become impossible. If Sony no longer produces discs, from 2028 only individual gamers will be able to enjoy titles like these.

#4 Gran Turismo 6

With Gran Turismo 6, an important part of the PlayStation core brand has said goodbye. In the Lists of “delisted” PS3 games the title appears and is no longer available digitally. It was once a long-running favorite in the store, but now you’ll have to be lucky to still be able to get a disc. You can see from the example that large titles are also affected by the disappearance if there are no longer any physical storage media.

#5 Genshin Impact

Genshin Impact disappeared for the PS4 in September 2025, and in-game purchases were discontinued in February 2026. PS4 support officially ended on April 8, 2026. New players effectively no longer have a chance to start with the title because there are no old discs left. Games disappear from your perception so quickly.

#6 Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1 and 2 were removed from digital stores on July 26, 2018, including the PS Store for the PS4. This was due to the expired license agreements, which is a typical reason for licensed games. If you no longer have a disc available, you will no longer be able to play the game legally. Even if the titles mentioned are older, you have to be prepared for the fact that your favorite game will happen if you don’t have physical storage media.
