Fallout: The cast explains how the world of video games makes the leap into the Amazon series

The hotly anticipated Fallout series doesn't premiere on Amazon Prime until Thursday, but there's already a reason to be happy for all fans of the post-apocalyptic end-time universe: As per a report in US magazine Variety shows, There is now virtually no doubt about a second Fallout season.

Fallout: Season 2 virtually confirmed – but not by Amazon itself

What happened? On Monday the California Film Commission announced which productions will soon benefit from tax incentives. Amazon's Fallout series is also on this list, right at the top.

Of the total of $152 million in tax credits awarded by the Film Commission to all productions, Fallout will receive a whopping $25 million. It is now clear that Amazon is planning a second season and that filming will probably take place on the sunny US West Coast – the first season was filmed in New York and Utah.

The latest status so far was that a second season will depend on success, i.e. viewer numbers, as the series creators themselves revealed to us in an interview:

The latest developments surrounding the California Film Commission's tax credits now strongly suggest that the makers behind the scenes have already given the green light to the sequel.

But be careful: Variety warns that productions can still be withdrawn even if they have already been given tax credits. The chances are very good for more fallout, but there is still no complete guarantee. So fans should definitely wait for an official confirmation from Amazon.

Why should season 2 be filmed somewhere else now? The decision to move filming to California could be beneficial not only because of the financial incentives, but also because of the diverse landscapes ideal for depicting the post-apocalyptic world.

For example, in the barren Death Valley, where classics like Star Wars and other post-apocalyptic films, among others, were filmed Planet of the Apes: Survival.

Even if official confirmation of a second season from Amazon itself is still pending, the distribution of tax credits leaves little room for doubt about the continuation of the series. So there is reason for fans of the Fallout series to be happy – provided, of course, that the first season is convincing.
