New measures were unveiled on Thursday by the government to try to curb the fifth wave of Covid-19.
And Olivier Véran was clear from the start of his press conference: “I will not announce any confinement or curfew to you. We can still pass this wave without resorting to the most restrictive measures if we know how to use the cards we have in hand“.
These cards were listed by the Minister of Health. First, the vaccination booster campaign will be open to all adults over 18 from Saturday, with a deadline for receiving the third dose reduced to five months. This concerns 19 million eligible people and the vaccines are in sufficient number. Vaccination centers can be reopened or expanded if necessary, although all health professionals can have Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.
The health pass will therefore evolve. As of January 15, the health pass will be deactivated once the seven-month period between the 2nd and 3rd dose has passed. From Monday, PCR and antigen tests will only be valid for 24 hours for unvaccinated people.
The wearing of a mask will also be reinforced. It will again become compulsory in all establishments open to the public. The prefects will be empowered to make the mask compulsory outdoors. During this holiday season, access to Christmas markets will be subject to the health pass in France. In Lyon, the question will undoubtedly arise for access to the Festival of Lights.
