When we think of Steven Spielbergthe first films that come to mind are often those that made him famous in the 1970s to 2000s. Between Jaws, AND The Extra-Terrestrialthe saga Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park or even Schindler's List, suffice to say that the American director single-handedly embodies a large part of big-budget entertainment cinema. However, despite his slightly older age, Spielberg still hasn't stopped making films, and even the most recent ones still prove that he is not close to having said his last word.

In 2018, for example, Steven Spielberg reconnected with pop culture by releasing the famous Ready Player One At the movie theater. Adapted from the novel by Ernest Cline, this film takes place in an almost apocalyptic version of our world where the entire planet is ravaged by pollution, famine and war. To escape this reality, the vast majority of human beings play a game virtual reality video game whose world (Oasis) is much more attractive. Among the players, we find Wade Watts (or Parzival in the game), who will try to participate in a giant treasure hunt to recover nothing more and nothing less than the legacy of Hallidaythe creator of the game. According to Steven Spielberg, this film was one of the most difficult to conceive of his career

While one might have thought that the most difficult films of Steven Spielberg's career to conceive were those he made a few decades ago, the American filmmaker admitted at the time of the release of Ready Player One that the latter had not been an easy task. It must be said that the film is visually very beautiful andit regularly alternates between an entirely virtual world and a world that could not be more real, which requires a lot of work. Between the computer-generated images and authentic shots, the film required colossal work bringing together no less than 800 different artists. Thus, regarding Ready Player One, Spielberg revealed:

Along with Jaws and Saving Private Ryan, this film was the most difficult to make in my career.

Of course, this doesn't take anything away from the rest of Spielberg's filmography which must certainly have posed some other difficulties, even if they were perhaps not the same. We of course think of Jurassic Park and the revolution that its special effects were at the time of its release, but also to more recent productions like its version of West Side Story released in 2021, a real work of art, especially for someone who can't really be considered a musical comedy specialist.
