The recognition of a master of the genre

Swen Vincke, CEO of Larian Studios and director of the juggernaut Baldur's Gate III, now reigns at the top of the video game industry after the unprecedented success of his game. So when the director addresses gamers and shares his favorites, it would be better to listen to him. And recently, it was a devilishly promising project that caught Swen Vincke’s eye. The CEO of Larian thus highlighted SKALD: Against the Black Priory, a resolutely Old School T-RPG with its board game mechanics, all in a Dark Fantasy universe where demons and magic are commonplace. And given the first images, there is reason to monitor this project closely.

A tribute RPG to watch

Expected for May 30 on Steam, SKALD has not only aroused the interest of Swen Vincke, but also that of Notch, the creator of Minecraft while the latter commented on a recent X/Twitter post from the game developers. A spotlight offered by two video game giants, there is necessarily reason to take a closer look at this project. And at first glance, SKALD could indeed stand out as one of the good surprises of this year 2024.

With its retro style, hand-drawn elements and colors inspired by Commodore 64 games, SKALD stands out first and foremost for its visual atmosphere. Old School in the graphics, but also in the gameplay with its “traditional” RPG experience, which should require you to create your character with different choices of origin, races, classes, all in the service of a Dark Fantasy story where the player's choices will have consequences… in short, SKALD has plenty to satisfy fans of the genre. See you in a little over a month to make sure. In the meantime, you can now go to the game's Steam page to learn more and add it to your wishlist.
