The Prairie Protorelic

The quest for the protorelic can start once you have completed the transmission towers tutorial with Chadley, during chapter 2.

Investigation Report 1: Coastal Watchtower

  • For this report, level 17 is recommended.

Head to the northeastern tip of the region and its watchtower. In front of it, go around it to find a passage and climb to its summit using climbing holds. At the top, you face Beck's gang. Failed bandits already involved in dirty tricks since Final Fantasy VII Remake. Chat with them to finally fight them.

Vulnerable to fire, do not hesitate to use associated elemental attacks or spells. Watch out for Burt, the tough one of the gang. Note, however, that it will weaken with each use of Spinning Lariat or Desperate Attack. Watch out for Baston! which can immobilize you on the ground, damage taken as a result.

Once the fight is over, you notice that the protorelic, in Beck's possession, has gone away. Head to the western part of the Prairie to continue the quest.

Investigation report 2: the checkpoint

  • For this report, level 18 is recommended.

The second part of the protorelic quest starts south of the town of Kalm, at an abandoned building. Beck's gang is preparing a barbecue there and you will try to sneak in to listen to their conversation.

Once crouched, go to your right to go around the large container and hide behind a small one. Wait until the henchman turns his back on you and continue to the right, following the small containers. Then place yourself between the big blue container and the small ones. You will have to quickly pass in front of the henchman with his back to the barbecue.

When he turns to his right, roll to reach the last small container that separates you from your destination and carefully enter the room to complete the infiltration sequence. Beck's gang then climbs the stairs near you to go to lunch.

You will have to reach them by going through the ceiling of their dining room. Exit the room and climb using the climbing holds near you. At the top, climb the ladder near the door and climb down the bar.

The gang is surprised but leaves Butch facing you, accompanied by a Needle Beak. Even if Butch has an attack boost at the start of the fight, it will take place without much problem. Use your offensive skills like Quick Chain or Brave Soul, and fight in SOLDIER Bravery to do maximum damage to your enemies.

After the confrontation, Butch escapes. The protorelic is still in Beck's pocket so the hunt continues.

Investigation report 3: the abandoned factory

  • For this report, level 18 is recommended.

The starting point for this third report is in a new disused building, in the far west of the region, near the path taken during the quest for “Flowers on the Hill”. Go around the building to the right to go inside.

After guessing that the protorelic is hiding behind Burke, the gang escapes for the umpteenth time, leaving you facing four bandits. Remember that they are vulnerable to fire and use the Quick Chain skill again, a safe bet.

When calm returns, call your chocobo and sniff the pile of rubble in the corner of the room. Then follow the glow and dig where the trail ends. You then get the key to Beck's lairwhich will give you access to the conclusion of the quest.

Investigation report 4: the bandits’ den

  • For this report, level 19 is recommended.

Go to the teleport point Kalm – Air Raid Shelter. From there, go north to arrive at the entrance to Beck's gang hideout. Use the key you collected earlier and head to the building on the coast.

Go under the metal curtain and you will see Beck's gang playing dead. Wake them up by dropping a large Shinra crate located high up. To do this, pull the lever on your right. After a good blow to the head, Beck wakes up and tries to negotiate with you. No matter your answers, a fight begins.

Be careful, alongside the gang, a modified Reaper will cause you some problems if you don't have the Lightning material. Equip it on as many characters as possible and target their arms to cause damage and facilitate Shock. Still monitor the bandits' activity by using fire spells to more easily reduce their life bar.

Once victory is achieved, Beck will only want to part with the protorelic in exchange for 2000 gil. As soon as you have the amount, give it to him and you will get the brigands protorelic, your first. What follows is a mysterious cutscene revealing a mysterious character that Final Fantasy fans will no doubt recognize.
