A memo to Xbox employees is causing a stir and gives a clear indication of the schedule for the next generation of consoles. It mentions the 2027 Christmas business as a key date for the company’s hardware planning. So the new Xbox, called Project Helix, could be less than two years away.
Xbox is supposed to come in 2027, but there are already problems
Xbox boss Asha Sharma does not specifically say in the memo that Project Helix is the hardware project that will appear at the end of 2027. However, there is a plan for this very Christmas present, which is influenced by rising component costs. The assumption is that this is the new Xbox console, which will need a lot of memory and RAM.
In the announcement, Sharma also makes it no secret that it is not the best moment to launch a new generation of consoles. Prices for key components had already doubled when she became CEO, only to have doubled again since then. She speaks here of a “hardware component crisis” (source: Xbox).

Sharma believes that Xbox is particularly suffering from the crisis due to previous decisions. The company is currently unable to meet the demand for current generation Xbox consoles. She notes that a new business model and partnerships in the hardware sector are needed as they will continue to stick to Project Helix.
So far, little is known about Project Helix itself. The new Xbox should be able to play both Xbox and PC games. Meanwhile, the console manufacturer still has other problems. There could soon be further layoffs in the company.
