The Next Movie Starring Keanu Reeves is Even Crazier Than You Think

A role in the shadows

Hollywood mega star, Keanu Reeves has definitely not finished surprising his audience. He is Neo in The Matrix, John Wick in the eponymous saga, but also Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, a widely acclaimed foray into video games that caused a stir. And because the Tenth Art likes it – after all, the universe of John Wick could also be adapted from a real action game – Imagine that SEGA and Paramount Pictures went to see the Canadian-American actor for a role in Sonic 3. And we're talking about the film!

After “Sonic, the film” in 2020 and “Sonic 2” in 2022 – two projects which were a hit at the box office, enough to make SEGA understand that diversity with the film industry was obligatory – a third feature film is already put on track. Keanu Reeves will play Shadowa character well known to the public, first appeared in 2001, somewhat as the Blue Hedgehog's Nemesis. A badass character for a badass performer, that makes sense.

An impressive cast

Seemingly nothing, the Sonic films have therefore created a truly prestigious panel of actors. We therefore find Ben Schwartz in the skin of Sonic, but also Idris Elba (which is also in Cyberpunk 2077, through the Phantom Liberty expansion) in that of Knuckles since Sonic 2. Without forgetting James Marsden in the role of Sonic's main sidekick, but also and above all the immense Jim Carrey to lend his features to Dr. Robotnik.

Sonic 3 will still be directed by Jeff Fowler, the author of Sonic 1 and 2 which still earned $320 million (despite COVID-19) and $405 million respectively at the global box office. A television series dedicated to Knuckles is even planned for April 26, 2024, taking place between the events of the first two films. The Sonic-Verse is a reality!
