The two popular role-playing games Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 (Kotor for short) actually do not fall into the official Disney canon for the Star War universe. The showrunner of The Acolythe has this Leslie Headland However, that didn't stop him from taking inspiration from the expanded canon called Legends.

A bit of Sith lore

The Acolyte is set about 100 years before Episode 1: The Jedi Council is even more clueless about the Sith's machinations, and the series could reveal some of what motivated Palpatine and Darth Maul to act in the long run.

Through the Rule of Two There is always only one master and one student. This credo was introduced by Darth Bane, which was almost 1000 years ago even at the time of the series.

In an interview with Den of Geek Headland revealed that she »played with using or at least mentioning Darth Bane«. But that shouldn't happen in the first season. However, we know that the important Sith Lord plays a role in the events in the series.

Headland, however, delves even deeper into the lore box and ignores the canon boundaries. villain from Kotor 2 caught her attention:

»Darth Traya really inspired me.«

Who is Darth Traya now?

We'll go around them again 4,000 years into the pastleave the official canon and return to the time in which Kotor 2 is set. Headland leaves open what the inspiration was exactly, but the story of Darth Traya at least allows one guess.

Darth Traya is the Sith name of the former Jedi Master Kreia. After her falling out with the Jedi Order due to her unorthodox training methods, she left the order. By the way, her padawan was Revan, the protagonist of Kotor 1.

She initially turned to the dark side, but her views also clashed with those of the Sith. In the process, she became a Force user who was neither Jedi nor Sith.

As Outcasts from both sides She then wanted to take revenge on the power itself and banish it from the galaxy. This project led, among other things, to the plot of Kotor 2.

What does this have to do with The Acolyte?

It seems that too Protagonist Mae (Amandla Stenberg) stands between the dark and light sides of the force. We know from the trailers that she fights the Jedi, but there's probably no direct connection to the Sith either.

Possibly the lack of clear belonging Darth Traya was a form of inspiration for the character of Mae.

You can find out whether Mae is the eponymous Sith acolyte or the representative of the dark side briefly visible in the trailer on Disney+ from June 4th.
