Premium from Sennheiser
Sennheiser launches the new Momentum True Wireless 5 headphones with replaceable battery, improved noise reduction and support for high-resolution audio.
Sennheiser now presents the Momentum True Wireless 5, a new generation of wireless in-ear headphones. The company describes the model as its most advanced in-ear product to date and says it is based on the same technology as the Momentum 5 Wireless headphones. The goal is to offer high sound quality in a smaller and more portable format.
Sennheiser’s own 7 millimeter TrueResponse driver is in the headphones, which should provide a detailed sound with clear tones and powerful bass. The headphones use Bluetooth 6.0 and support both aptX Adaptive and aptX Lossless. This means they can play high-resolution audio with up to 24-bit resolution and 96 kHz sampling rate from compatible audio sources.
The model also has an updated system for active noise reduction and an automatic wind protection should help reduce noise from wind when the user is outdoors. A new earbud works together with four microphones to improve noise reduction. There is also an ambient mode that lets sounds from the outside world through in a more natural way.
During phone calls, the headphones’ eight sensors are used, including microphones and voice sensors. Together with AI-based technology, the system should be able to reduce background noise and make voices clearer for the listener. The headphones also support Dolby Atmos with head tracking, which can create a more spatial sound experience where the sound image follows the movements of the head.
One of the biggest news is that the batteries can be replaced. This applies to both the batteries in the headphones and in the charging case. According to Sennheiser, they can be changed in a few minutes using a small screwdriver. The company believes that it can extend the life of the product and reduce the need to buy new headphones when the battery has deteriorated.
The battery life is said to be up to 12 hours on a charge. With the charging case, which supports Qi wireless charging, the total usage time can reach up to 40 hours. Quick charging provides up to an hour of listening time after eight minutes of charging.
To make the headphones more comfortable, Sennheiser has used data from thousands of ear models when developing the design. The company states that 73 percent of test subjects found the new shape more comfortable than its predecessor. The headphones are also IP54 rated, which means protection against dust, sweat and water splashes. A micro-perforated microphone plate should also reduce interference from wind. At the same time, the charging case has been made slimmer to fit into tight pockets more easily.
The Momentum True Wireless 5 supports Google Fast Pair, Microsoft Swift Pair and multipoint connection, which makes it possible to connect to several devices at the same time. The headphones also have a reinforced antenna with a special mode for environments where many wireless products are used. The Snapdragon Sound technology platform is used for high-resolution audio and also includes a low-latency mode that is optimized for gaming. Via the Smart Control Plus app, the user can, among other things, adjust the sound with an 8-band equalizer and make personal sound settings.
The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 goes on sale on September 3 in Graphite, Cream, Copper, Denim and Lavender. Recommended price is SEK 3,290.
