The new Garfield movie reveals its first trailer and it’s adorable

Eighteen years after his last feature film in theaters, the feline hungry for lasagna marks his return to the big screen. Here comes Garfield: Hero in spite of himself, a new production from Sony Pictures. After having blurred the limits of reality in a series of live action films that are strange to say the least, the orange cat offers an animated film that could well make us fall in love. The talent of this division of Sony no longer needs to be proven, but this first trailer once again reveals a thoughtful artistic direction, far from the 3D animation that Disney and Pixar have largely trivialized.

Halfway between The Mitchells against the machines And Snoopy and the Peanuts, the moviethis new version of Garfield looks just as cute as it is crazy. In the casting of the original version, spectators will find Chris Pratt in the main role. Once again, the actor brings the character to life in his usual voice which, this time, fits the character and his character quite well. The production is also complemented by some unexpected talents, namely Samuel L. Jackson (Marvel Cinematic Universe), Nicolas Hoult (Renfield), Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso) and Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso). Garfield: Hero in spite of himself has many surprises in store and promises to live up to the legacy of the cult character.

A family and emotional adventure

To bring this new Garfield adventure to life, Sony Pictures Animation has signed the services of Mark Dindal, who Disney fans will recognize as the director of Kuzco, the Megalomaniac Emperor. Thus, offbeat humor inclined to break the fourth wall should be at the heart of the feature film, and the trailer does not fail to make us understand this. But more than a simple film pretext for cheeky jokes worthy of the character, this new Garfield intends to explore the relationship between the feline and his master, Jon Arbuckle.

By returning to the origins of this meeting and the protagonist’s love for Italian food, the production hopes to tell an emotionally charged story. For the first time, Garfield is brought to meet his real family, a major event that will shake his personal identity and his view of the world. After boasting about leading Jon around for so many years, is Garfield capable of leading the life of a normal cat, on adventures on the road with his biological father? Nothing is less sure. For now, the film will be released on May 24, 2024 in the United States. The French release date cannot be delayed any longer.
