The Legend of Legacy announced for Nintendo Switch in HD

NIS America and FuRyu have revealed that they will be bringing The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered to Nintendo Switch. The game is expected for early 2024.

The Legend of Legacy was launched on 3DS in 2015 (our review here). The game features seven adventurers who explore the mysterious land of Avalon while continuing their own journeys.

In The Legend of Legacy, seven explorers — Liber, Meurs, Owen, Bianca, Garnet, Eloise, and Filmia — land on the mysterious island of Avalon. They join forces with two other adventurers to carry out their different objectives, whether it is to dig up treasures, discover the “god” of the island or find their lost memories. But the story takes a new turn when they discover a singing stone allowing them to see reminiscences of Avalon’s forgotten past. In addition to exploring the island of Avalon, players will find in The Legend of Legacy thrilling fights. Although it is a turn-based system, they will be able to create their own formation for their team of three, with each character able to take on a specific role (defense, attack, support, etc.) at any time. Formations can be saved and swapped during turns, allowing players to customize and best optimize their strategy.

Features :

  • Seven unique perspectives – Each character in The Legend of Legacy explores Avalon for their own reason, and each of their storylines is resolved at the end. Play with each character to discover them all!
  • Versatile combat – Formation management allows designating specific roles instead of predefined classes, which adds more challenge for combat enthusiasts.
  • A legendary team – Illustrator Tomomi Kobayashi (SaGa series), illustrious composer Masashi Hamauzu (SaGa, Final Fantasy XIII), screenwriter Masato Kato (Chrono Trigger), game designer Kyoji Koizumi (SaGa series) and director Masataka Matsuura (999 : 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors) have joined forces for this completely new experience.
  • Rebalancing for the West – Following feedback from Japanese players, several adjustments have been made to the game. More information on this subject soon!

The Legend of Legacy is a role-playing game developed by FuRyu and published by Atlus. It was originally released in Japan in January 2015 for the Nintendo 3DS system. The game was created by a development team made up of members who worked on the SaGa series of games, earning comparisons to that series.

The game’s plot takes place on the island of Avalon, a mysterious world with magical powers. Players can choose from seven different playable characters, each with their own playstyle and story. The game emphasizes exploration, searching for magical artifacts, and uncovering the island’s secrets.

The Legend of Legacy is known for its strategic turn-based combat system, where players must form groups of characters to exploit each character’s specific skills and synergies. The game also highlights the importance of cartography, encouraging players to create their own map of the island as they explore new regions.

The game was praised for its gorgeous art direction, 3D graphics, and captivating soundtrack composed by Masashi Hamauzu. However, it has also been criticized for its sometimes difficult learning and steep difficulty curve.

Ultimately, The Legend of Legacy caught the attention of Japanese role-playing game fans for its non-linear approach and intriguing world. It was followed by a sequel titled “The Alliance Alive,” which was well received by gamers and critics.
