The latest PS5 exclusive game falls short in comparison to its predecessor

“Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth” is in the starting blocks. And more than 100 evaluated tests make it clear that a real highlight is ahead. “Rebirth” was also able to fight its way almost to the top within the series.

Yesterday the review embargo for “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth” fell. Since then, there have been plenty of tests for the PS5 role-playing game online. They make it clear that players can expect something really big.

On Metacritic Around 120 reviews have been collected so far. They are all positive and start with a score of 80. A total of 40 editorial teams gave “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth” full points.

Together, the tests result in a Metascore of 93. This makes the action RPG one of the best-rated games of the year. And “Rebirth” is also at the forefront of the long-standing “Final Fantasy” series. But it wasn’t enough for the top spot.

Final Fantasy 9 has a higher score

With a Metascore of 93, which can change with further reviews, “Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth” is positioned in the series rankings on Metacritic just behind “Final Fantasy 9”, which came onto the market in 2000 and in the PlayStation version achieved a Metascore of 94. However, this is based on only 22 evaluated tests.

Later releases for other platforms achieved a lower score. The PS4 version, introduced in 2017, had a score of 85. The PC counterpart received one point less. “Final Fantasy 9” is also available for iOS, Android, Switch and Xbox One.

The original PS1 version of “Final Fantasy 7” has an average rating of 92 on Metacritic. “Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade” from 2021 has an overall rating of 89. The tests for the PS4 version from 2020 ensured this an 87 score.

“Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth” was also able to position itself ahead of “Final Fantasy 12”, which had a Metascore of 92 in 2006. The Game Boy Advance version of “Final Fantasy 6” and “Final Fantasy 14: Endwalker” in the PC version also achieved this value.

“Final Fantasy 15” is rated with 81 points, while “Final Fantasy 16” has a Metascore of 87.
