Game news The Last of Us 2 PS5: What are the REAL new features of the remaster?
At the beginning of next year, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will open the ball of releases. A ‘final’ version, exclusive to the PS5, and which will give pride of place to technical improvements and new features. Want to know EVERYTHING in this edition? That’s good, we’re taking stock of the subject.
When is The Last of Us Part 2 Remaster released on PS5?
Already, the basic information… The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will be released January 19, 2024 exclusively on PlayStation 5. For the occasion, the adventures of Ellie | Abby features several technical improvements and new features that are worth the detour (we detail all that in this paper)! Even if we do not yet know the exact price of this version, Sony has announced that it will be enough to pay 10 euros to ‘transform’ the PS4 edition into a remaster on PS5, regardless of whether you have the base game in physical form or dematerialized. It will also be possible to transfer your saves to PS5.
Will The Last of Us Part 2 look better on PS5?
On his official blog, Sony talks about “improved graphics” for The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered! In addition to a 4K or 1440p resolution depending on Fidelity or Performance mode – which should also have an impact on the frame rate per second – we will have the right to higher resolution textures, better detail display distance, “reworked” shadows “and much more”. What’s more, if your screen is compatible with VRR (“Variable Refresh Rate”), you will be able to gain a little framerate. Finally, PS5 also means reduced loading times thanks to the SSD and all the advantages of the DualSense controller… As a reminder, The Last of Us Part 2 already benefits from a 60 fps mode on PS5 via backward compatibility, with a resolution that is approaching 4K.
What’s new in this remaster version?
Of course – apart from what we mentioned above – The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered does not come empty-handed! The biggest addition, without a doubt, is “No Return”, a completely new rogue-lite survival mode. The principle is very simple, stay alive as long as possible in a series of random confrontations. Between each session (to use PlayStation’s words), you can choose a reward (stealth, combat, etc.) and upgrade your hero more and more, in the great tradition of rogue-lite. Speaking of characters, you will unlock them as you play, with the possibility of eventually playing as Abby, Lev, Dina, Jesse and even Tommy. Each offers its “own characteristics and styles of play”, writes PlayStation… And ultimately, “appearances” | “new things” await you. The ultimate objective is to go far in No Return mode to increase your rank within a global ranking, daily sessions.
The other big part of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered is the arrival of Lost Levels, areas which have been the subject of notable work on the part of Naughty Dog but which have ultimately not been not included in the final game. Obviously, there will be three (thanks to the leaks): Jackson Dance, which undoubtedly refers to Ellie’s famous kiss | Dina, shown in a trailer and absent from the full title; Boar Hunt ; And Sewers (a level in the sewers, therefore). On the other hand, PlayStation warns us: “These sections are far from finished – they are extracts from the beginning of development which allow you to explore new environments of The Last of Us 2”. So don’t expect additional hours of gameplay. These levels will be accompanied by audio comments from the developers and there will also be some on the cut-scenes of the main adventure ! Among the speakers, we find director Neil Druckmann, head writer Halley Gross, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson (players of Joel and Ellie) and even Laura Bailey, who lends her voice to Abby.
Free guitar, new outfits, some other details
We finally end with the latest additions to The Last of Us Part 2 Remaster. First of all, a mode to play the guitar in complete freedom (based on the same “mini-game” as in the original software). Here, no time limit… Your melodies are now accompanied by several “effects pedals” but also “new characters and settings” – without further details. Speaking of appearance, this new version brings new outfits, like an astronaut costume for Ellie. Everything can be immortalized in an updated photo mode (similar to that of The Last of Us Part 1) as well as a speedrun option, also inherited from the previous remake! And finally, Sony has increased the accessibility of the title, with the arrival of audio description and vibrating texts.
