The Impact of Ghost of Tsushima PC on Other Major PlayStation Titles

Superb swan song of the PS4 in 2020, Ghost of Tsushima is experiencing new growth thanks to its port to PC released on May 16. Another hit for Sony.

The idea of accompanying Jin Sakai in Sucker Punch's vision of feudal Japan obviously greatly attracted PC players via Steam, GOG and the Epic Games Store. In any case, this is what we see when seeing the figures relating to Ghost of Tsushima on Steam. This is now the second best launch of a title published by Sony on the Valve platform.

Ghost of Tsushima breaks records again on PC

In 2020, Ghost of Tsushima was one of the last PS4 exclusives. Sucker Punch's representation of feudal Japan was greatly appealing thanks to its poetic artistic direction and gameplay skillfully mixing samurai fights and infiltration worthy of a shinobi. For many, it was a bit like a kind of Assassin's Creed in Japan before its time. Thanks to a Director's Cut released in 2021 on PS5, the title would have recorded nearly 10 million copies sold.

These numbers probably swelled further when Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut was released on PC on May 16. On Steam, players have in any case responded to play Jin Sakai. According to SteamDB, the game reached a peak of 77,154 simultaneously connected users on May 19. It thus narrowly surpassed the peak of 73,529 for God of War, released on the platform in 2022. It then occupied second place among the most played Sony games on their Steam version. The Sucker Punch title is therefore having a great launch on PC. The only game published by Sony crushing all the others on Steam is none other than Helldivers 2, with a stratospheric peak approaching 460,000 players connected simultaneously.

After the excellent quality port of Horizon Forbidden West, Nixxes hits the nail on the head again with that of Ghost of Tsushima. This therefore bodes very positively for its future. However, it is worth remembering the thorny problem relating to linking your account to the PlayStation Network to play the Legends online mode. Although it is not mandatory on PC, Sony has still chosen to delist the game from some 170 countries in which its network does not exist. A big loss of income for residents of these countries who do not have a PlayStation console and who would have liked to help Jin Sakai drive the Mongols out of Tsushima.
