After Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts!

While the Harry Potter saga ended in cinemas in 2011, Warner Bros, which owns the rights to the franchise, was determined not to let the story die while the universe was more popular than ever. This is how we were entitled five years later to Fantastic Beasts, a series of films set before the adventures of Harry Potterbut still in the same world.

This new epic is inspired by the book of the same name, still written by JK Rowling, which is initially just a directory of fantastic creatures, some of which appear in the books of her saga. But finally, it was decided to make a series of films on the man presented as its writer, namely Norbert Scamander, and the events in which he participated at the beginning of the 20th century. Unfortunately, after three episodes, the saga seems set to end there in the cinema.

An eternally incomplete saga?

In 2018 when Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald was released, this second episode is less convincing than the first and displays the lowest box office of the wizarding world franchise. Despite this, nothing to discourage producers who sign for a third part. However, in the meantime, Johnny Depp who plays Gellert Grindelwald, the main antagonist of the saga, is in the middle of a trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard. In front of this situation, Warner decides to cast another actor in this role and it is Mads Mikkelsen who will replace him at short notice in Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore's Secrets released in 2022.

Unfortunately, the decline is confirmed for this third part which establishes the new lowest box office score for a film in the Harry Potter franchise. For a budget of 200 million dollars, David Yates' film only grossed 400 million, which confirms Warner in its decision not to repeat the experience for a fourth part. However, it seems that initially, the saga was planned to last five films, the last of which would feature the famous confrontation between Dumbledore and Grindelwald. Unfortunately, this no longer seems relevant anymore, but you can always form your own opinion on this third and final episode which is available on TF1+.
