The Elder Scrolls 6: Bad news for fans

Anyone waiting for The Elder Scrolls 6 still needs a lot of patience – a well-known insider is now dampening expectations.

The latest assessment of the release of The Elder Scrolls 6 comes from Jason Schreier, Bloomberg journalist and one of the most reliable insiders in the gaming industry. In a live Q&A, he said fans should not expect to see the game in the near future. TES6 could appear in 2028 at the earliest – Schreier also believes 2029 or later is possible.

The Elder Scrolls 6: Fans have to keep waiting

If you want to classify the extent of the waiting time, you have to take a quick look back. Skyrim was released in November 2011 and became one of the most popular games of all time. The successor was announced at E3 in June 2018 with a nearly 36-second teaser that showed nothing more than a landscape and a title.

Since then there has been neither gameplay nor screenshots. Todd Howard confirmed in March 2024 that a playable version existed – he did not give a specific date. Until a release in 2028, that would be 17 years between two main parts of the series.

Is The Elder Scrolls 6 also coming to the PS6?

A release in 2028 or 2029 falls directly into the era of Project Helix, Microsoft’s next generation of consoles. This shouldn’t be a coincidence: after the recent change in mood, Microsoft is planning to more first-party titles than exclusive games to reserve for his new hardware. Gears of War: E-Day is already only available for PC and Xbox Series X/S – The Elder Scrolls 6 could follow the same path. It is therefore questionable whether the game will ever appear on PlayStation.

According to reports, the current mass layoffs at Microsoft are not intended to directly jeopardize TES6. However, parent company ZeniMax lost significant jobs, and id Software, Bethesda’s sister studio, is said to have lost around half of its workforce. There is no evidence of cuts for TES 6 itself – but the unrest in the group is unlikely to accelerate development.
