The Board of Directors of The SPO Foundation Welcomes Three New Members

Free Software Foundation announced about increasing the number of participants from 6 to 9 board of directorswhich is a supervisory and advisory body that helps achieve the goals set for the Foundation, determines the mission, objectives and long-term strategy of the Foundation, and controls the activities of the President and CEO. The three new council members were selected from 83 candidates and underwent a three-month probationary period before final approval.

The following were admitted to the Board of Directors:

  • John Gilmore is one of the founders of the human rights organization Electronic Frontier Foundation, founder of Cygnus Solutions, creator of the Cypherpunks mailing list and the hierarchy of Usenet conferences alt.*, one of the authors of the DHCP protocol, founder of the free projects Cygwin, GNU Radio, Gnash, GNU tar, GNU UUCP and FreeS/WAN, GDB debugger maintainer.

  • Christina Haralanova – social justice activist, women's rights activist, promoter of the importance of free software, creator of the WITT (Women's Information Technologies Transfer) network, director of the Bulgarian center for the protection of the rights of Internet users (Internet Rights Bulgaria) and member of the organization Free Software Association Bulgaria.

  • Maria Chiara Pievatolo is a professor of political philosophy at the University of Pisa (Italy), known for her work in building an open scientific environment, the creator of an open access Italian journal in the humanities and social sciences, and the president and co-founder of the Italian Association for the Promotion of Open Science ( AISA).
