In the mansion you first come to a large hall. Go up the left stairs there. In the next open room you will immediately see a statue that is already holding a lantern. Leave this lantern untouched for now.

Instead, go through the open door on the right and enter the room with Iasmina. You can talk to her, but the lantern in her room is particularly important for the puzzle. Take her with you.

Move the first lantern

Leave Iasmina’s room again and place the lantern you took with you at the statue outside on the stairs you just came from. This leaves the path open and you can now collect the lantern, that you previously left hanging by the statue.

You can now use the lanterns to open additional rooms. Some of these are optional and contain manuals and other loot. For example, behind the door in the middle of the stairs. Or the room that can be accessed via stairs on the right in the main hall.

Find the second lantern

Finally, use a lantern on the statue at the Door on the ground floor (on the right as seen from the main entrance). Go through the opened door and defeat the enemies that appear behind it.

Fight your way through the basement or the kennel. At the end you will find some remains Key to the kennel. You can use it to open the wooden door and return to the main area of the mansion.

Get to Chariklea with two lanterns

Then take the lantern again from the statue on the ground floor. Go back up the left staircase and enter the room. Here you will find the statue, which already had a lantern with it at the start. Give it back to her and now enter the room straight ahead. Behind it you will find a locked door with two statues.

Kill or spare Xanthe

Unlike Ambrus or Bakir, you can spare Xanthe and even team up with her. If you accept her offer, Xanthe will survive and later support you against Brencis. This results in several advantages during the final attack:

  • Xanthe’s Blood Guard retreats.
  • You do not have to complete a later trap/nightmare sequence caused by Xanthe.
  • Xanthe appears again during the finale and can support you.
Once you defeat Xanthe, you can spare her or kill her.

The disadvantage is primarily narrative: Xanthe continues to keep Chariklea artificially alive and continues her cruel methods.

If you kill Xanthe, Their work ends and you can then drink their blood. This allows you to gain the vampire power “Bloodlust”. However, that’s not the only way to get the ability.
