Not only the role-playing grandfather Dungeons & Dragons is celebrating an anniversary in 2024 – the most famous German fantasy role-playing game also has a notable birthday to celebrate. The Black Eye was first published 40 years ago.

The pen & paper experts at Orkenspalter TV have come up with something very special for this event. On their YouTube channel they are currently publishing a series of videos in which they play The Black Eye, with a prominent cast and in an extremely historic location: the Black Boar Inn!

What is the Black Boar Inn?

If you are long-established fans of Aventuria and DSA, you certainly know the inn in question. Because found here one of the very first adventures place that ever existed for The Black Eye. It was called In the Wirtshaus zum Schwarzen Boar, was published on February 5, 1984 and revolved around a tyrannical count and an adventurous dungeon directly below the inn.

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Black Eye and the adventure surrounding the Black Boar Inn, channel presenter Mháire Stritter and some guests went to a real inn called To the black boar Taken a seat and a sequel to this classic adventure played in front of the camera.

Also at the table was the DSA legend Werner Fuchs one of the three original inventors of The Black Eye and the author of the very first adventure in the Black Boar. The group, however, was led by Thomas Finn, the novelist had already written another adventure in the Black Boar in 1998 and once again put an adventure in and about the inn on paper for this special Let's Play.

When, how and where?

Incidentally, the location is the Zum Schwarzen Keiler inn in Nienburg, which is close to Bremen. And yes, the name of the inn is no coincidence. Its owner, Wilhelm Baron von Dornfeld (that's really his name), is an old DSA lover and his medieval tavern was named after him.
