The biggest update for Starfield to date is almost here and fulfills tons of fan wishes

It's not an easy life as a Starfield fan at the moment. It is well known that the game lacks the finishing touches, but since the space adventure was released last September, updates from Bethesda have been sparse.

The developers' communication was also rather minimalist – apart from Todd Howard's confession that Starfield had not been forgotten. Due to the fallout hype, the number of players recently plummeted.

But now Bethesda apparently wants to turn things around. In a video recently published on YouTube, the developers announced a big update for Starfield for May 15th and explained what exactly to expect. We have summarized the information for you.

Finally more overview

One of the most important points of criticism from players that Bethesda wants to address with the upcoming update is the lack of clarity in the maps.

We remember: Since launch, Starfield's environment maps have been a blue-gray area with little detail where only important locations are marked with a gray symbol. Without topographical details, finding your way can be difficult – especially in settlements.

Right now this will finally end up here. With the update Starfield finally gets it a detailed, realistic map missed, where you can clearly see environmental details such as rocks, trees and outposts.

The trading and loot menu should also be clearer. With the update, Bethesda is introducing new tabs in the upper left corner of the screen that can immediately show you which items you have in your inventory and which are in your ship or a box.

What else is in it?

The improvements to the maps and interface already sound promising, but Bethesda of course has even more new features and functions in store with the May update.

  • New spaceship deco mode: Similar to outposts, you will be able to freely design the interior of your ships in the future. In the new decoration mode you can freely place or remove furniture, pictures and other objects if you prefer to fly a tidy spaceship.
  • Better performance on XBox Series X: You can switch between a nice 60 fps visuals mode and a fast 40 fps performance mode.
  • More difficulty options: For players who like to be challenged, there will be above in the future Very difficult yet another level of difficulty that arises Extreme calls. There are also new options to make space combat and firefights harder or easier separately.
  • Switch off dialogue camera: This feature will allow you to switch off the zoomed-in and less immersive dialog view in the future. Instead, the camera now remains in the shoulder perspective.
  • Better New Game Plus: In the second round of the game, you can now allocate your characteristic points again right at the beginning if you wish. Are you tired of the annoying fan? No problem, just choose another trait. You can also redefine your appearance at this time.

What awaits us in the future?

Of course, even after the May update is released, Bethesda still has plans for Starfield. The first, of course, is expansion Shattered Space to be mentioned, which is scheduled to appear in the fall.

But beyond the upcoming DLC, Bethesda is still working hard on Starfield. According to lead creative producer Tim Lamb, the team is currently working on even more quests and a vehicle!

The latter in particular had been repeatedly requested by fans given the extensive planetary surfaces. In the video you can see a kind of small moon car with which you can jet from your spaceship to the various POIs. However, the car is still a thing of the future and is not included in the May update.
