The prefecture of Pas-de-Calais has administratively suspended the activity of the chemical products company Synthexim of Calais, classified Seveso high threshold, in particular because of its management of hazardous waste, it announced on Friday September 23. This administrative suspension dates from August 25, said the prefecture, confirming information from The voice of the North. “It may be lifted when a complete hazard study has been submitted and the operator has eliminated the waste”she adds.
It criticizes Synthexim, which manufactures intermediate chemical products for the pharmaceutical industry, for not having presented a complete hazard study to the inspection of classified installations (ICPE), despite repeated requests since 2011. ICPE “is therefore unable to position itself on the risks presented by this site and the measures taken by the operator to remedy them”explains the prefecture.
In addition, “significant quantities of liquid hazardous waste [notamment inflammables] are present on the site in conditions deemed unsatisfactory by the inspection”she adds.
