The synopsis communicated by Lucasfilm remains quite vague on the story of The Acolyte. The plot must revolve around a criminal investigation led by a Jedi master and his former apprentice — a padawan. Chronologically speaking, the series must take place during the High Republic, a period which extends from -300 to -100 before the Battle of Yavin, in episode IV. We are therefore at a very ancient time, prior to episode I (The Phantom Menace). A time when the Galactic Empire does not yet exist, while the Jedi Order has thousands of members.
According to Lucasfilm, the series is to be a “mystery thriller”, following the final days of the High Republic. It is also mentioned the “ emerging powers of the Dark Side », which suggests that we will perhaps come across a Sith – or several? — during the adventure. And why not Darth Plagueis, to make the future connection with Palpatine, aka Darth Sidious?
In an interview with Screen Rantactress Jodie Turner-Smith says this series is different from anything else Star Wars has done so far. It is unique if only for the era in which it is set: we are very far from the Skywalker family saga here. However, it will be necessary to judge on the evidence whether it will be as surprising as the description given.
What distribution for The Acolyte ?
Disney, the parent company of Lucasfilm, announced part of the casting of The Acolyte on November 7, 2022. The series notably includes Carrie-Anne Moss, who played Trinity in Matrix. We also find Dean-Charles Chapman, who played in Game Of Thrones (Tommen Baratheon) and 1917film by Sam Mendes, constructed like a long sequence shot.
The rest of the cast consists of Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give) Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Manny Jacinto (Nine Perfect Strangers), Dafne Keen (His Dark Materials: At the Crossroads of Worlds), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), Charlie Barnett (Russian doll). We don't yet know the characters each will play.
Who is behind the camera?
Filming has started, according to a message posted on Twitter on November 7. It will be spread over a few weeks. Leslie Headland (Bachelorette) simultaneously wears the hats of director, screenwriter and executive producer for The Acolyte. His involvement was mentioned as early as April 2020, in an article in Variety. At the time, there was talk of a series featuring several women.
When comes out The Acolyte ?
During the Star Wars celebration in London, Lucasfilm indicated that the broadcast of The Acolyte will occur in 2024, without further details. The Colliderin its February 10 edition, puts forward a narrower window: summer 2024. No doubt we will know more during the next Star Wars Celebration, early May.
How many episodes for The Acolyte ?
