The worst vampire?

Having received a terrible 15% from the press on Rotten Tomatoes, Morbius was clearly not appreciated by critics. Despite an honest start in theaters with $84 million generated worldwide during its opening weekend, the Spider-Verse film failed to establish itself. Benefiting from a budget of 80 million dollars, it grossed “only” 167 million despite several new theatrical releases, which is considered a failure.

Morbius is interested in Michael Morbius, a renowned scientist affected by a blood disease that he wants to get rid of. During his research, he discovers that the solution to his condition is linked to a species of vampire bats. But the experiment to cure him goes wrong and the scientist finds himself with the powers and needs of the animal. Played by Jared Leto, Michael Morbius is accompanied on screen by Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Tyrese Gibson, Jared Harris and Michael Keaton, who reprises the role of Adrian Toomes that he had in Spider-Man Homecoming.

Presented by some critics as “the worst Marvel movie since Venom: Let There Be Carnage”, the film nevertheless offers effective action scenes and special effects far from being missed. Still, it wasn't enough to hide his flaws. Flaws that the director himself recognizes, even if he insists on his qualities. “I have a lot of hang-ups so I criticize my own work a lot. I always try to do better, but I'm also proud of what I do. There are passages in all my films that I am proud of” he explained to Insider.

Despite less than flamboyant results and incendiary returns, Morbius still has defenders. Still at Rotten Tomatoes, the public score stands at 71%, which is quite respectable. “Better than expected. The movie has some questionable scenes but overall it was great” we can even read in the comments section. You don't know who to believe between virulent press criticism and sometimes encouraging public feedback? Why not form your own opinion? You have three short days left to watch the feature film for free on VOD, via TF1+. After that, you will have to pay or have a subscription with the usual platforms to see it.
