Changed roles
Telia launches a new security function that protects its customers and lets the fraudsters be responsible for the cost.
Telia presents Telia Payback, a new protection against fraud that not only blocks the fraud calls that risk deceiving customers, but also ensures that the criminals are financially affected.
The fraud is about so-called Wangiri calls, where criminals call from abroad to get the recipient to call back and thereby be burdened with unreasonably high fees. Since 2019, technical solutions have stopped millions of these calls, but now Telia Payback is turning on logic: Instead of the costs affecting the individual consumer, a reverse mechanism takes place where the criminals are charged for their attempts. Through an automated speech response, the fraudsters are revealed and informed that they have come up, which will put a stop to their attempts to use Swedish mobile customers with the Wangiri method.
“Pacyback Time”
Amanda Landqvist, responsible for Telia's fraud fight, says in a press release that “last year we stopped 37 million Wangiri calls, but fighting criminals is like meeting a moving target. It requires rapid footage, knowledge -enhancing efforts and that we constantly develop our technology. Our extended security protection now stops even more fraud, and costs they, and costs, and costs, and costs, and costs, and costing them, and instead, and costs. is simply payback time. ”
Both incoming and outgoing calls
The new technology applies to both incoming and outgoing calls. When a fraudster calls a Swedish number, a speech response is activated that meets him with a personal message – a clear message that a fraud attempt is underway. If the suspected call still reaches a customer, Telia warns directly through a signal that informs that it is best to add, without any call costs being charged.
As part of the launch, Telia urges Swedish mobile customers to participate actively in the protection. By recording their voice, they can contribute to the response that conducts fraudsters will hear, which not only strengthens the system technically but also helps to make the victims visible.
Money for victims
Furthermore, Telia shows its social responsibility by the fact that the money withdrawn from the criminals will be handed over to the Crime Victims Journal, which provides support to those affected by fraud.
Although technology does a lot to stop fraud, Telia emphasizes the importance of increased vigilance in consumers:
- Do not call back: Do not respond to unknown international numbers.
- Be careful about your details: Never share passwords, bank details or verification codes by phone if you are not entirely sure of the authenticity of the call.
- Block suspicious numbers: Have you identified a potential source of fraud, block the number directly.
- Add if you are unsure: No call cost will be charged if you choose to end the call immediately after the warning.
The new solution is part of the service for all Telia's mobile customers and requires no extra downloads or apps, which makes it both easy and easy to use the improved protection.
