Tchia – Test and News

Originally released on PlayStation, Tchia's adventure has finally been released on Xbox consoles. A journey that we discovered during these summer holidays and for a few hours for a most magical result. Indeed, beyond being a classic adventure, Tchia is above all an ode to New Caledonia, the scene of the events narrated in the game. An exotic journey that we simply recommend.

The game begins with a simple introduction that takes the form of explanations. Indeed, before letting you discover the game, the developers wanted to put all this into context. This is how we learn that Tchia is created by a small team that decided to highlight the culture and traditions of New Caledonia. We therefore find – beyond the magnificent landscapes – everything that makes this culture charming : dubbing by locals, local music and many other inspirations. A most ambitious promise that is immediately realized, from the very first moments.

Your story begins on a small island, where Tchia and her father live. In this idyllic setting, you must therefore find your bearings, in the form of a tutorial. The gameplay – intuitive and simple – is based on classic mechanics: one key to jump, one for actions… Everything can be done in just a few seconds.which gives us the opportunity to discover the places and soak up the atmosphere of the game. This takes the form of a beautiful sunset, translucent water, but also an environment teeming with small details and which, at times, reminds us of one of the gems of the Nintendo Switch, a certain The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, at least on a visual level. In short, after having toured the island and received our father's birthday present, a glider (hello Zelda), we go to a campfire which offers us our first magical moment: a local song. A wonderful moment that can be experienced in two ways : either in the form of a rhythm mini-game or by activating the automatic function, which gives us the opportunity to enjoy the moment. Something to appreciate this unique and exotic universe.

But to create interest and make us progress in the game, something had to come and spoil the pleasure of our young heroine. Thus, our father is kidnapped by the great antagonist of the story, which pushes Tchia to go on an adventure. This one also lacks originality. Understand by that that the story follows simplybut that it really lacks enthusiasm, twists and turns, or even surprises. We can also make the same observation about the open world that is offered to us. Beyond its incredible atmospherethe activities (mini-games) offered are quite classic in form. We stack stones, we do some shopping, we collect a large quantity of collectibles, and that's it. We would have really liked it to be more complete, more varied, in short, to live up to the title's setting.

Fortunately, the game benefits from a special care in its gameplayespecially thanks to this power which allows us to take possession of the body of many elements, such as animals or objects, for example. This offers a interesting gameplay diversitywhile creating situations that are sometimes funny, sometimes surprising. Indeed, taking control of a bird and defecating on passers-by remains quite comical. We also take this opportunity to point out that Tchia is above all a party game and we spend most of our time walking around in the heart of New Caledonia. If you are not interested in this type of experience, move on. Because even if you have to face one or the other opponent sent by Meavora, your enemy, it is a tiny part of the adventure proposed. The few fights are not the most thrilling and we will quickly forget them to concentrate on the essential: the journey. A a journey which, moreover, turns out to be thrillingespecially when you take control of a dolphin or a bird. The limits of the world fly away – so to speak – when you can enjoy the benefits of local animals. A guilty pleasure that makes the truly satisfying experience.

In short, you will have understood, the enchantment is totaland this from the first minutes of the game. To convince players and immerse them in this copy of New Caledonia, the developers have taken care of the artistic direction of the game. Indeed, we find ourselves facing a game with bright colors and an extremely neat atmosphere. The visual is successful and the similarities with the legendary Breath of the Wild take the form of an assumed compliment here. Just like for the Nintendo game, we enter a universe that makes us dream and that makes us travel. It should also be noted that on a technical level, the game is perfectly clean. During our test, which lasted a few hours at most, we did not encounter the slightest bug that affected our progress or our adventure.

Finally, of course, what would a good little game be without a soundtrack worthy of the name. For this, Tchia draws on the culture of New Caledonia to offer us enchanting songs and pieces. The musical instruments, just like the dubbing, are from the islands. An additional element that greatly promotes immersion, while emphasizing the primordial aspect of the game: the invitation to this wonderful world that is New Caledonia.

As you will have understood, the short journey proposed in Tchia is a truly magical, colorful adventure. New Caledonia is sublimated here and we take great pleasure in exploring the islands to discover the secrets they contain. It is a shame that the adventure lacks a little rhythm and that the story struggles to convince. We will also forget the clashes which, fortunately, are only a tiny part of this experience which, in the end, is worth the detour. A beautiful journey, truly.
