Tango Gameworks wanted to create a sequel before closing

A new report is making the rounds that Tango Gameworks wanted to create a sequel to Hi-Fi Rush. But then the studio closure threw a spanner in the works.

The Japanese development studio Tango Gameworks, which was founded in 2010 by developer legend Shinji Mikami, was closed by Microsoft a few days ago. Many people cannot understand this decision. After all, the studio had quite a success with “Hi-Fi Rush” at the beginning of last year.

The developers already had plans for Hi-Fi Rush 2

Meanwhile, more reports have surfaced that Tango Gameworks had future plans for the brand. In a new one Bloombergarticle highlights that a sequel to “Hi-Fi Rush” should be proposed to Xbox leadership. In addition, they wanted to hire more employees to implement the project.

It was all the more surprising for the employees that Tango Gameworks was closed by Microsoft. After all, the Xbox division had previously called “Hi-Fi Rush” a “breakthrough success” that met all important measurements and expectations.

Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier clarified in a subsequent tweet that “Hi-Fi Rush 2” was still in the pitching phase. This means that the developers put together a concept and a possible prototype, which they then present to the publisher. The donor will then determine whether this project will be implemented. And it is not uncommon for corresponding ideas to be rejected in this phase.

After all, it is already predicted how long such development will take, how much it will cost and whether all of this will be economically viable.

Ultimately, Microsoft decided to reduce costs. So the studio didn't even get to introduce the successor. Studio founder Shinji Mikami left Tango Gameworks last year to pursue new challenges. He pressed briefly expressed his sadness about the studio closing.

Those responsible had emphasized that they wanted to consolidate in order to be able to focus more on fewer projects. Jill Braff, head of ZeniMax Studios, said it was difficult to support nine studios from all over the world. The tasks continue to grow and the central team remained small. That's why you had the feeling that everything would soon collapse on your head.
