Synology Unveils New 12-Bay NAS Devices With and Without 10GbE

Synology has added two new models to the DiskStation line of NAS devices. The DS2422+ on DS3622xs+ are aimed at small to medium-sized companies. Both have 12 hot-swap drive bays for 2.5- and 3.5-inch SATA drives with a maximum total capacity of 108 terabytes, or 200 terabytes for the DS3622xs+ if 32 gigabytes of ram is present. This can be extended with once or twice the DX1222 for the 2422+ and 3622xs+ respectively. This can each house another twelve disks with a capacity of 192TB and is connected via the mini SAS HD connector that is also on the NAS devices.


Outwardly, the new devices are almost identical.

The DiskStation DS2422+ gets a quadcore AMD Ryzen V1500B at 2.2 gigahertz with 4GB ram, there is room for up to 32 gigabytes. Connectivity consists of four gigabit Ethernet, two USB 3.0 ports and a PCIe 3.0 x8 expansion slot that runs at x4 speed.

The DS3622xs+ comes with the Intel Xeon D-1531 and 16GB memory, which can be expanded up to 48 gigabytes in four slots with two times 8 and two times 16 gigabytes. Two of the four Ethernet ports are now 10Gb and an additional management connector has been added. Furthermore, there are the same two USB type-a ports and an expansion slot at PCIe 3.0 x8 speed.

The housing of both models and the expansion module measures 27 x 30 x 34 centimeters with an empty weight of about 9.5 kilograms. Cooling is provided by two 120mm fans and a 550W power supply is built in. The operating system is DiskStation Manager 7.0.1. Finally, there is an RS-232 console port. A three-year warranty is included. It is not yet known when and for what price the new NAS devices from Synology will be available.
