Cloud services
If you want to change from the big cloud giants, Canadian Sync.com is an option.
Sync.com, or just Sync, is a Canadian service that has been around since 2011, the focus is on encryption and secure transmission, and since the service was founded, there are no reports on security leaks. The cloud storage is the company's only service, but it offers some cooperation functions for corporate customers within the framework of it.
You can subscribe for a free account and then get 5 gigabytes of free storage, and you can earn more storage by going through different functions and inviting friends and acquaintances. However, the payment subscription offers limited choice options. You can pay annually or per month but not for all price levels, and for private individuals there are only options 200 GB, 2 TB or 6 TB, where the 200 GB option is not very affordable. Well cheaper price plans with smaller data dots are thus missing, but you can at least regret your purchase and get the money back for up to 30 days. Some features are also found only in the more expensive price plans, such as preview of documents and sync on demand of cloud files.
Whether you log in to your mobile or on the web, you come to a fairly spartan file manager. In the app for Windows and Mac, however, you can choose a folder that is always kept in sync between the computer and the cloud. When I first try to choose a place, I get an error message. I guess it is because that folder itself syncs against OneDrive, and when I choose another place that does not, it works.
In the app I can choose to turn on automatic sync of the mobile images, and those pictures end up in a folder called Camera Uploads. If you have more than one mobile, all pictures end up in the same folder, but you can turn on so that they are sorted after which month they are taken. However, it is a bit si and so with camera upload in the background. If you have recently been inside the app, the image will be uploaded immediately after you take it. Otherwise, it may take hours, and on the iPhone when I test, the picture still has not been uploaded the day after, even though I cruised in the app settings in “Background Uploading” for pictures. As soon as I open the sync app on the iPhone it rattles and the pictures are sync.
It is not without sync.com feeling a bit spartan, with more focus on backup of data files and sharing these files with other users.
