Switch 2: Technical detail about the Joy-Cons leaked

When will Nintendo announce the Switch 2? When will the new hardware be released and how much will it cost? All questions are open. According to rumors, one detail has been confirmed that concerns the Joy-Cons.

While Nintendo continues to remain silent, rumors about the Switch 2 – or whatever the Japanese company's next hardware is called – are appearing like a conveyor belt. The latest report of this kind is dedicated to the Joy-Cons, the attachment of which will take a different approach in the upcoming model.

Since the current Joy-Cons are connected to the Switch via a different rail system, it is unclear whether they are compatible with the new handheld console in any way.

Joy-Con controllers have an attractive effect

Like the video game website Vandal claims that the Switch 2's Joy-Con controllers are magnetically attached to the console. This would be a different approach compared to the currently available Switch model. It is unclear whether the Joy-Cons of the Switch, which was introduced in 2017, can at least be used as an additional controller.

The situation is apparently different with the optional controller that follows a classic approach: the existing Pro Controller will work with the Switch 2.

Vandal's report also states that accessory manufacturers have received information about the Switch 2. Based on this, it is predicted that the console will be larger than the current hardware, but smaller than Steam Deck.

It stands consistent with previous reportswhich said that the Switch 2 will go on sale with an 8-inch LCD screen – instead of the regular Switch's 6.2-inch display and the Switch OLED's 7-inch display.

The form factor of the Switch 2 is said to be largely similar to that of its predecessor, which also applies to its hybrid character. But the Joy-Cons themselves will have a slightly different shape.

Potential backwards compatibility of the Switch 2 still uncertain

It is still unclear whether the console will offer backwards compatibility or not. However, previous leaks suggested that Switch games, whether digital or physical, would be supported by the Switch 2. Due to the pending announcement of the new hardware, rumors of this kind should of course be treated with caution.

How reliable are today's statements? It should be noted here that Vandal had already reported in detail about some of the console's features before the Switch OLED was released in 2021, writes VGC. This included information on integrating a new stand and an Ethernet port.

In a supplementary Twitter/X Rumor it says today that the Switch 2 is expected to “launch in the second half of this year.” Significant contracts for initial production are dry. The Tegra T239, manufactured by Samsung Foundry 7LPH, will be used.

In February, however, it was said that Nintendo had postponed the launch of the next-gen console from this year to early 2025. One Insider source revealedthat this delay was necessary to prepare high-quality first-party software for the console.

However, other voices claimed that the postponement was made to avoid possible problems with hardware procurement. A Nintendo spokesman also spoke up later to say that they had nothing to share. However, investors were divided something with the traditional Japanese company.

What hardware does the competition have planned?

It's not just Nintendo that's working on hardware. Sony and Microsoft also continue to strive to bring new devices onto the market.

To PS5 Pro All sorts of reliable information has arrived in the past few weeks. Last but not least, this includes the mention of one Ultra Boost Mode, which in the best case scenario gives existing games a decent boost without the developers having to do anything. Our summary provides further details about the hardware:

Microsoft's plans are less transparent. Rumor has it that the company is focused behind the Xbox “on multiple types of devices”. This could initially include a digital edition of the Xbox Series X. Also should one handheld has received the green light.

What is officially known, however, is that Microsoft wants to despite falling console sales stick to hardware products and promises so far “biggest technological leap in a generation”. What exactly the Redmond company means by this is unclear. It doesn't sound like something that will just end up being a more powerful console. What do you all mean?
