Switch 2: Nintendo miscalculated

Nintendo needs more Switch 2 consoles.

Is things going even better with the Switch 2 than expected? Bloomberg now reports that Nintendo plans to increase production to 20 million units for the current fiscal year. This corresponds to an increase of 20 percent, although the switch manufacturer had previously forecast a decline in sales from 16.9 million to 16.5 million consoles.

This is how it continues with the Switch 2

However, according to the report’s sources, this number is not set in stone and could be adjusted depending on market developments. However, Nintendo is confident that it can continue to drive sales with new games.

Industry analyst Serkan Toto is not surprised by the plans. He explains that Nintendo has no problem deliberately setting forecasts low in order to later exceed them.

He also points to the last financial year as a good example of this strategy, when Nintendo was able to exceed its target of 15 million consoles sold. For this financial year he expects 18 million copies of the Nintendo Switch 2 to be sold (source: Bloomberg/ GamesIndustry.biz).

The Switch 2 will soon be even more expensive

Nintendo recently announced that the Switch 2 will be a full 30 euros more expensive. However, the price increase will only apply from September 1, 2026. Many fans who have been flirting with the console are likely to buy it now, which will drive up sales figures, at least in the short term.

Serkan Toto assumes that customers will get used to the higher prices in the long term. Nintendo could also use “creative ways” such as bundles to make the price increase more bearable.

In the USA, Nintendo had already announced various Switch 2 bundles before the increase. According to a leak, a similar offer will also come to Europe in June. Fans can then buy the console together with Pokémon Pokopia for 509 euros.
