Survey fuels rumors of a handheld

In the last few months we have repeatedly received reports about a possible Xbox handheld. A current survey by Microsoft caused new speculation, with which the Redmond company is getting to the bottom of interest in a corresponding system.

Not just that resounding success the Switch and the high sales figures of PlayStation Portal, which itself Sony surprisedrecently demonstrated the increasing popularity of mobile systems.

Valve's Steam Deck and the Asus ROG Ally were also very well received by the community. After it became apparent in the last few months that Microsoft could also be working on a PC gaming or Xbox handheld, speculation is currently gaining momentum again.

This is due to an extensive survey by Microsoft that the company sent to selected users. With the survey, which is also available to Windows Central, Microsoft is, among other things, getting to the bottom of the question of basic interest in an Xbox handheld and desired features.

First of all, the survey is about which PC gaming handhelds the respondents own. They are also asked whether they would be willing to purchase another system of this type in the next twelve months. The question about an active Xbox Game Pass subscription is also waiting to be answered by those surveyed.

The survey then goes into a little more detail regarding possible features. For example, this is about possible cloud gaming support. At the same time, the question remains what users value about PC gaming handhelds and to what extent they use their mobile systems.

According to Windows Central, this indicates that Microsoft would like to offer a system that can keep up with competitors such as the Steam Deck or the ROG Ally in terms of features. Finally, Microsoft examines the question of whether and in what way the purchase of a PC gaming handheld influenced the user behavior of those surveyed.

Maybe to find out whether your own handheld can coexist with the PC and the Xbox console?

Microsoft is said to be working on several prototypes

The fact that Microsoft is definitely open to an Xbox handheld has recently become clear the statements by Phil Spencer. At the same time, Windows Central's Jez Corden spoke out last month with unconfirmed insider information. As Corden wants to know, Microsoft is actually thinking internally about a native Xbox handheld.

Corden also reported that the Xbox hardware team is currently working with experiment with various prototypes. During his statement, Corden emphasized that these are completely new prototypes. And not about systems about which we have previously received rumors.

Microsoft itself is still holding back regarding a possible handheld device. Last affirm the US software giant only plans to continue using Xbox hardware. In February, Xbox President Sarah Bond also pointed out that we can look forward to an “exciting hardware announcement” during the holiday season.

However, it is unclear what exactly Bond was referring to in her statements. If the information from Exputer is true, then we can at least rule out a purely digital version of the Xbox Series X.

According to the magazine's information, this should be the case appear in summer.
