After several successful role-playing games were released in 2023, BioWare felt encouraged to focus entirely on the basics for the new “Dragon Age”.
On October 31st the time has come! “Dragon Age 3: The Veilguard” is coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. On the consoles you pay 79.99 euros, on the PC you only pay 59.99 euros. You get one for that Scope of at least 40 hours delivered.
Like the former executive producer named Mark Darrah told IGNthe success of “Baldur's Gate 3” didn't worry BioWare. Quite the opposite: The role-playing hit and the generally strong RPG year of 2023 encouraged the team to focus on the basics.
A renaissance of the RPG genre
“I think what I saw last year more than anything was a renaissance in the RPG genre. Last year was arguably the strongest year we've ever had in terms of RPGs. Not only did we have Baldur's Gate 3, we also had Hogwarts, we also had Starfield, we had a lot of RPGs that came out last year that covered a really wide range of what an RPG can be. I think that silenced some naysayers,” explains Darrah.
“Baldur's Gate 3” from Larian Studios convinced all critics and achieved a Metascore of an impressive 96 points. “Hogwarts Legacy” managed “only” 84 points, but sold better than any other game in 2023.
2023 ultimately led to a “massive change in the development of The Veilguard”. Otherwise, the fantasy RPG might have become another action title, like the ones that already exist in abundance.
What BioWare does best? According to Darrah, “telling stories through characters.” You'll find out at the end of the month whether the Canadian development studio has managed to do this again. At least EA can at least talk about pre-orders so far don't complain.
