The bet to adapt One Piece into live action is surely one of the riskiest taken by Netflix. But it's a successful bet since the first season was rather well received by fans of the Straw Hat. They will be happy since season 2 finally gives some news!

When Netflix announced it was adapting the most famous anime, many fans were very skeptical about the quality of the series. However, when it was released in August 2023, fans of the Straw Hat had the pleasure of being pleasantly surprised. This can be explained by the collaboration of Eiichiro Oda for the production of the series. What matters in any case is that Netflix very quickly announced a season 2 and the first information has just fallen. Indeed, according to the new issue of Production Weekly, things are starting to move behind the scenes.

One Piece season 2: 2025 in sight

Netflix is getting ready to launch hostilities in June 2024, since this is the date that has been set for the return to the sets. This return would have taken so long because of the enormous casting campaign launched by platform as part of finding new actors and actresses. Fans will therefore have the opportunity to meet new familiar faces in the anime. For the moment no new profile has been announced, although it is guaranteed to find Inaki Godoy, Mackenyu and Emily Rudd in the shoes of Luffy, Zoro and Nami.

Another piece of information has been shared, but this one may test fans' patience. Filming is expected to end around January 2025, but represents the same production time as season 1. On season 1, each episode cost 9 to 10 million dollars to be produced. This sum made it possible to recreate a universe faithful to the manga. Season 2, which should also include 8 episodes, will have to live up to the first season, at the risk of disappointing the public.

Change of direction for Vogue Merry

The fans know it, but Steven Maeda, showrunner of the first season will not be for the second. In fact, he now occupies the role of executive producer. He therefore leaves a vacant place alongside Matt Owens, another screenwriter who developed season 1. However, this place was not free for very long since Joe Tracz arrives as reinforcement. The author has just had some success with the rewrite of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. What convinced Owens to recruit Tracz was his mastery of adolescent productions. We must not make the mistake of excluding some of the straw hat fans. Eiichiro Oda will continue to assist the production of the series and his advice will not be refused!

Indeed, although Netflix has managed to export One Piece in a live action version, this has not always been the case for other cult anime. The American company has already tried the exercise, notably with Death Note or Fullmetal Alchemist. The least we can say is that the productions were not very convincing. Now that the Red N has succeeded in its adaptations of One Piece and Avatar: The Last Airbender, we must not spoil everything. See you in 2025for the continuation of the Monkey D. Luffy adventures!
